Lol @ 0:38 "Eventually, seeing people using cellular phones may seem as commonplace as someone checking time on an electronic watch, figuring on an electronic calculator, or programming on an electronic computer!"

I’m watching and commenting on this ad on an android device which in many ways acts as a watch, calculator, and computer. It’s also my alarm clock, stopwatch, camera (still and video), shopping list, calendar, etc. If I didn’t suck at video/computer games, I’d be using this for that too. All that and the battery lasts all day, and I can cram it in my jeans pocket.

Voice-over dude didn’t know how right he was! Hell, maybe he’s still around and totally DOES know. Technology did move super fast after all. 😊🤷‍♀️

  3. andre.123 on October 2, 2022 at 4:33 am

They were right about the use of cellular phones becoming as common as use of watches. In fact, I dont even carry a watch and just check time on my cell.:))) But I guess it was easy to predict. Some predictions failed, while others became reality and even more far fetched than what people thought was possible in future.

This was the early 1990s; there were car phones in the ’80s, but not the phones people walked down the street with.

"a great phone to carry with you" – shouldn’t that read "a giant size brick to weigh you down and give you a full 3 hours without being re-charged & dare you make a phone call without talking to your bank to arrange a loan.

  19. Poe Territory on October 2, 2022 at 4:50 am

  21. Sean Ivan Hernandez on October 2, 2022 at 4:51 am

For them back then this was the future

But for us now it was a thing of the past, an old piece of technology.

If I live more years, I’ll go back to 2021 after several years and I’d say the same thing.

  22. crusty21 on October 2, 2022 at 4:52 am

Back then only drug dealers could afford those things…Now even the family pet has one.

  23. jkappianaq on October 2, 2022 at 4:54 am

  24. Bluto Blutarsky on October 2, 2022 at 4:56 am

Just bought a 1994 Dodge Shadow with an original optional Chrysler cellular phone still in it. I imagine that phone probably cost about 5% of the entire car in ’94.

  25. Rufus Slothkowski on October 2, 2022 at 4:56 am

Funny how these days we consider it extremely dangerous to use a cell phone while driving, yet cell phones started off being in automobiles.

  26. Jordan Hedlund on October 2, 2022 at 4:57 am

  44. ChildrenSay2346 on October 2, 2022 at 5:22 am

Boy was this commercial ever spot on! Little did they know that cell phones would end up becoming people’s lives! Sad, really. It was nice to watch this and see people actually TALKING on it (you know, the actual use for a phone..) instead of taking those annoying ass "selfies" or playing games.

  45. Fast Food Runner on October 2, 2022 at 5:25 am

Will be As common as looking at a Watch or Calculator .. oh the irony

  46. Edward Mathenge on October 2, 2022 at 5:25 am

This ad is prophetic in its modest claim that the "cellular revolution" will lead to significant increase in usage (the cellular phone is the single most pervasive device in human history after the wheel). However, nowadays the cellphone is used to check the time, calculate figures and program applications. And with every year is increasingly involved in managing all aspects of daily life. So perhaps the Cellular revolution should be referred to as the Cellular uprising. Because if the current trend continues resistance will indeed be futile.

  48. fishodorvagina on October 2, 2022 at 5:29 am

I’ve seen car phones back in the 80’s when I was a kid, but I didn’t see cellular phones that you carry with you until the early 90’s.
