#199 How to improve your Maker Lab

Which are the essential tools in a lab? Which one do I use and how am I organized? A video for all which are curious about how it looks behind the camera. Maybe you discover something you can use for your own work?
This is also my first “real” appearance on YouTube. I thought it is time after 200 videos…

in 1970’s stafford beer (07:00) was helping allende to create "proyecto Synco" proyect in chile, but it was destroyed by the tyrant pinochet, Chile could have been a pioneer in communications in America, but EE.UU The United States does not allow South America to develop technologically.

Unrelated, I took out "The goal" from the company’s library by curiosity. It stood there waiting for someone to pick it up for years. It was an incredible read and I would read it again. I understand why that section was avoided but the book did not deserve that.
I found at least one technical application in my real life: the washing machine was way faster than the clothes were drying. It did not matter if I started the washing machine when I had no place to put the clothes to dry for at least a day. I had no success explaining that to my wife… My engineer language was getting in the way πŸ™‚

Retired Electronics Technician. Just can’t stay away from TECH. Had 19 operations due to some medical issues. Now, I am much better but still bored so I just keep reading and watching videos like this. After retiring, tried some crafts, then leathercraft cost me 17k, Woodworking and gave all of it to my son.
Now I am starting over building my electronics shop. Worked extensively on ALL consumer products and my last job was Access Control, gate systems, DVR;s & camera security. The one thing I am interested in is your MICROSCOPE for soldering and inspection. What I used were a 30x & 100x monocle from (Radio Shack). THey fit in my toolbox.

Awesome insight! Thanks for sharing your lab’s features – many of them I recognize compared with my very little lab and I got some additional ideas.. like the binocular. nice.

It gives me an almost embarassing amount of pride to see your lab and its layout systems and see just how similar my lab is set up to yours and even the logic i used to lay mine out has many parallels. Love your content sir.

Did you consider to use ltspice? Easy method to learn about electronics. Also I could recommend you Halbleiter-Schaltungstechnik by Ulrich Tietze. Had him as a professor and find this book very informative.

I upgraded my scope and ended up trading a 3d printer for a tektronix oscilloscope which is old but as fast as my brand new 2gsa per channel siglent. I’m getting a linear siglent 3 output psu to go with my switchers. I also learned that not having a good 3d printer the hard way so I ordered a commercial one this week with a 2 year parts and service contract. I just need a second quality dmm to go with my ut61e+. I figured I’d upgrade some of my gear so I can have reliable tools. I got caught up in upkeep of creality printers and traded one for the tek scope and a 900va 50lb isolation transformer. I’m going to extend my desk as well. I might as well put some of the insurance money from losing most of our belongings to good use. I’m switching to abs and nylon in a enclosed printer and keeping the rolls and rolls of fancy pla for gifts and my 60 thousand large led collection. I personally don’t like prusa but I trust your word. I just got a 24gb 3090 graphics card for Cuda and tensor flow and a little 55 inch c9 lg oled monitor for gaming and 2 other monitors. One ultra wide 2k screen on its side and another monitor for research plus a laptop.

I also have a recording studio and I’m installing a stereo near field audio station for when I’m not wearing a pair of my life long obsession with sennheiser.

1:23 I was looking for a bench multimeter (DMM), saw a teardown of that model, they call it sandwich box on EEVBlog forums. Do you still have it or is it already replaced with something better

OMG! I and my wife watched your video in awe. I am so stunned. I have Soul of a Machine and Skunk Works too! Ken Olden was my Hero CEO. Now the drawers were just awesome. I have plastic boxes but each one a different shape and size. Nothing stacks or is visible. I i have to search by opening them up. Nothing is sorted 100%. I have so mych work to do but you gave me a model to follow or at least begin with. Thank You so much. I build Model Trains. And I 3D print train parts I have dremels and will grind anywhere so chip fly all over Not Good. I just started ESP32 and ESP 8266 development to control train engines and smoke and sounds. I had OctoPi on my printer and a One 31 inch monitor for design. But i also have a demo and test station for assembled chassis of trains. So actually more table tops but less work space some how. I am so encouraged. Thank You, Dennis & Margaret in Virginia

You are such a wonderful person Andreas. Well dressed, humble, kind and extreamly nowledgeable. If wish I had you as a teacher in school, then I would have actually attended class. Instead I quit school. I’ve learned much more from YouTube and from testing things in life. Keep up your glorious work!
