  9. Abel Lewis on November 25, 2022 at 7:39 am

Every Saint Row game including the reboot (2022) got the best opening sequences. Enough said.

A list with "Prey"! The immersive Sim genre lives!!

Thanks for giving that game the recognition it deserves. I try not to fanboy but that game is something else

NBA2K11 had a great intro, but sports right.

For a memorable mobile game opening (note that most mobile games are quite barebones), I’d really recommend this prologue chapter. Essentially, you start off getting booted out of an important mission due to falling asleep in the briefing. Then the command room blows up, and turning up, you realise that the kouhai you met earlier is trapped beneath a mound of rubble. You then both proceed to get teleported to a burning city, with said kouhai transformed into a shield-bearing superhuman (no, not that one), and the director of the mission inexplicably alive. Then you defeat the bad guy, and it turns out that not only did a seemingly kindly professor betray you earlier, it turns out that the director was dead the whole time, just before said traitor brutally wipes her from existence. Welcome to Fate/Grand Order.

  15. Sonic Autumn on November 25, 2022 at 7:44 am

    Missed two of the best.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Destiny 2. Say what you will about the rest of the game, but you have to admit, between introducing the foes, the paragons, other noteworthy npcs, and controls, t Destiny 2’s opening set things up well

  22. Kusuo Saiki's Clone on November 25, 2022 at 7:49 am

Now its not the best opening sequence, but my favorite was of the first Star Wars: Forced Unleashed game where you start off as vader and the empire is invading the wookie fort. Vaders abilities the abilities gain through out the game and is maxed out and you fight your way until you reach Star Killer as a kid who he takes under his wing to train. I find it my as favorite as it gives the player a nostalgia blast and feel of vaders power while giving the player a goal to reach as they play through the story which i also love

  23. Onyx Penguin on November 25, 2022 at 7:50 am

If a follow up to this video happens, I’d love to see The Darkness on this list. That one still lingers with me.

A remaster of that game would be FANTASTIC. I think it was a bit lost because it released about the same time as BioShock.

  24. Weaselbeak75 on November 25, 2022 at 7:50 am

    Mass Effect 2

  25. KAY B 14 on November 25, 2022 at 7:52 am

the intro cutscene of mgs5 ground zeroes still blows me away.
it’s very simple but spot on, visually stunning and perfectly setting the tone for the outro cutscene.
though I guess the whole game was just an opening sequence.

  26. Mason R on November 25, 2022 at 7:56 am

Dead Space 2 & The original Silent Hill. These two set up the main goal in both games: Survive.

  27. carl mahome on November 25, 2022 at 7:56 am

    Dead Space 2

  28. Matt Blank on November 25, 2022 at 7:57 am

Did people really criticize Prey for not being like Prey? That is what a reboot is.

  29. Trevor White on November 25, 2022 at 7:57 am

I would have gone with Bioshock Infinite, but whatever.

No Shadow of the Colossus? srsly?

And I’d probably give an honorable mention to Persona 5 Royal. For new players, it’s just about everything the original was, in terms of "Wait, how the heck did we get HERE?" And for returning players, the seamless integration of the new material is an early heads-up to pay attention, because they didn’t just tack it all on at the end.

  30. D.T. Gray Arts on November 25, 2022 at 7:57 am

So many games have several awesome opening sequences. I like how Sonic Adventure 2 Battle begins. Sonic suddenly jumps from a chopper straight into a down hill street boarding and the stage begins.

  31. Dima Keller on November 25, 2022 at 7:58 am

I love the silly opening of DMC 3. Dante pierced by multiple scythes (one enemy is still trying to hold to it and j just gets drugged after Dante), just casually hours for the pizza

  32. Martin Wettig on November 25, 2022 at 8:00 am

  33. VAustin89 on November 25, 2022 at 8:02 am

Mass Effect 2 and 3 were brilliant. DMC the reboot was freaking hilarious with the hunter demon, DMC 5 just went crazy balls to the walls, Sunset Overdrive was hilarious and gets you ready for the kind of game and humour it has to offer. With the recent Witcher 3 upgrade, the cinematic intro of Yen was incredible. Recently I would say Stray has a good sequence and that eyes staring at you when she was struggling to get a grip and then falls of to the abyss was hard for me to see since I have 2 cats with me.

  34. JJ on November 25, 2022 at 8:06 am

God of war 3’s intro is the best, it’s the culmination of the entire saga. Before we knew of the norse reinvention of course.

  35. OKIGorgon on November 25, 2022 at 8:10 am

Best opening sequence will always be Beyond Goog & Evil to me. Short cutscene and straight into fight with a banger ost. No tutorial and no time to process what happened in cutscene.

  36. Its All Rigged on November 25, 2022 at 8:10 am

    "Hey you’re finally awake"

Say what you want it’s one of the best openings of all time, shows the world introduces the stormcloak imperial conflict then sets a bloody dragon on you, fantastic

You guys really did lose your mojo and find your WatchMojo huh all I ever see from wc is lists lol

  37. Matt Blank on November 25, 2022 at 8:12 am

I don’t know if best is the right term for The Last of Us.

  38. Post_Man on November 25, 2022 at 8:12 am

The background music makes me sad

  39. Basoene Douglas on November 25, 2022 at 8:14 am

Didn’t like preys ending tho. Everything is a dream never ends satisfying. I’d have preferred if it was actually happening, if it was the characters plan to live after his/her death, brainwash a typhon into believing it was Yuri and your actions determine how well it takes

  40. Pusckas Nacho Bidal on November 25, 2022 at 8:15 am

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. That was amazing!

  41. David Dante aguilera ramos on November 25, 2022 at 8:16 am

i feel kinda sad for no see megaman x and the intro stage

  42. TheMidgarDemon on November 25, 2022 at 8:17 am

The Final Fantasy VII opening will always have a special place in my heart. That initial close up of the green orbs, the first glimpse of Aerith, then pulling back from her until we can see all of Midgar, culminating in the music reaching a crescendo as the title overlays the picture…Marvelous stuff.

  44. Dima Keller on November 25, 2022 at 8:20 am

How about a list of moments when devs clearly wanted you to do one thing, but you still did exactly the opposite?
Nioh 2. Second enemy is a giant bull demon that’s meant to show you you’re not supposed to fight every enemy you come across. If we had statistics I’d bet like 90 percent of people at least tried to kill him multiple times

  45. Webhead on November 25, 2022 at 8:21 am

Before watching I just need to point out that the below are among the VERY best openings in any videogame.

    God of War (2018)
    God of War Ragnarök
    Uncharted 2
    Mass Effect 3
    The Last of Us
    Resident Evil 4
    God of War 3

  46. keeganshigh on November 25, 2022 at 8:22 am

Umm most people hate the beginning of TLOU. Boring and slow is what I’ve always heard and I did agree.

  47. dedCAESAR on November 25, 2022 at 8:23 am

Deus Ex Mankind Divided has one of my favorite opening sequences.

  48. Abel Lewis on November 25, 2022 at 8:25 am

The Last of Us is the best opening sequence and the saddest opening sequence you ever see in a video game. Enough said.

  49. Alex Coupe on November 25, 2022 at 8:26 am

The fact that this list is dominated with PlayStation exclusives should be indicative of the quality of PlayStation games. Microsoft and Nintendo just cannot compete. There wasn’t even one Nintendo game on this list 🤣

  50. Timothy Oswald on November 25, 2022 at 8:27 am

Good list! Oddly enough, the Gran Turismo 5 opening movie is absolutely nuts, with a crazy rendition of a Prokofiev piece that transistions into a My Chemical Romance song of all things, with visuals starting with the construction of a car that then footsge of in-game racing.
