5 harmful effects of excessive video gaming

5 Most harmful effects of excessive video gaming
Today More than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide, and sales of games are growing.Β This popular form of media has both positive and negative effects on children. But playing video games too much, that can be a bad thing. Video game addiction can be as problematic as gambling. So, let’s dig into the harms of going into the deep end of video gaming.
Obesity
Scientists claim that video games make teenagers hungry and more likely to become obese. Over 45% of America’s 12 – 17 year olds spent more than two hours per day glued to a screen, and more than 1 in 7 children are overweight. Because video games are nothing but kicking back on the couch and punching buttons. And definitely sitting around for hours on end with minimal movement can make you more susceptible to health issues associated with obesity. The best approach is to mix in a little exercise and healthy snacks every few levels.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Most video games require lengthy involvement to finish any particular game, forcing the player to stay focused on the screen during playtime, and it is not great for your eyes. Prolonged bouts of video gaming can also cause symptoms very similar to Computer Vision Syndrome, or CVS. And also, it can cause a wide range of problems, most commonly led by eye strain and eye pain. To help prevent eye strain, make sure you have proper lighting to reduce glare, take frequent breaks to rest your eyes and blink often. You might miss that power up, but your eyes will thank you for it.
Backaches
Backaches are a common physical symptom of gaming addiction because most gamers stay seated in the same position for hours. The lack of movement causes stiffness and soreness, but could deteriorate into chronic back problems.
So, if you must play, at least fix your posture.

Migraine
Migraine headaches typically start in one spot and slowly spread, getting more painful as they progress. In severe cases, the pain can be so extreme that it causes the sufferer to vomit. Light and noise can cause excruciating pain. While there are countless triggers for migraines, people who play video games for extended periods of time are more prone to these headaches because of the intense concentration required while gaming, as well as the strain put on the eyes by staring at a bright screen.
Aggressive Behaviour and Mental Problems
According to a newΒ review of research, violent video games are linked to more aggressive behaviours among players. Children are at risk of becoming more impulsive, socially awkward, and more likely to become addicted to gaming over time. They are frustrated by resistance to accept studies that link violence to the video games as well as the lack of action on the issue.
Kids who play violent games also tend to have more aggressive fantasies and engage in more aggressive behaviours.

How can seeing consequences of killing someone in the game and seeing how the person suffers ( like burning soldiers in the game Verdun that’s something horrific ) make you more violent and want to do it?! And more studies show how gaming improves certain abilities. Also you’d be surprised that not every gamer is fat… In fact more are buff than fat

  13. Odin on February 18, 2023 at 5:35 am

    1) Games don’t make you fat. Calorie intake does. Intense gamers tend to be malnourished since getting up and getting food during an 8 hour raid is considered a waste of time.
Sitting around for hours with no movement? You mean like a job or school?
    2) Again eye strain is MUCH worse when looking at a page. It’s unavoidable.
    3) Too much brain exercise is bad? Okay.
    4) So nothing regarding gaming then? Just sitting. People only sit when they game. Gotcha.
    5) COMPLETELY FALSE. Studies prove otherwise. In fact it’s considered a positive when dealing with anger issues. By that logic martial artists would be the most aggressive people on the planet. They are the opposite of that.
Want more practical proof? Who is more violent kids today or kids 50 years ago?

    Case and point.

  22. Hパ狼 on February 18, 2023 at 5:51 am

Thos are very logical results from excessive gaming, but the last part about migraines and mental sickness may seems like a myth. Well, youngsters are pretty much resistant from it … But as you grew older like 23+ you will feel the change … very much likely pay the price for what you had been done alot before, it’s not just about gaming …. but lifestyle. Migraine just a light symptoms, we had cought worse … Narcolepsy, Burnout, Backaches, HNP, CCFP … Which can’t be cured completely with a simple medication.

I stopped playing after I developed an abscess inside my thumb from pressing constantly on a joystick, and the skin between the nail and the flat surface started turning dark brown like in a diabetic, so I definitely must have killed some blood vessels there. Two and a half months later skin returned normal color, but the abscess still remains. If I touch anything the skin just dents in like there is a small vacuum chamber underneath. Hopefully it will stabilize eventually.
