Are VIDEO GAMES really as BAD as HAMZA says…?

Many YouTubers like Hamza tell you to quit playing videos games. Are video games actually that bad for you? Do they really numb your dopamine and ruin your motivation to work towards your goals?

Video games never truly turn anyone bad, it just depends on how the person acts, behaves and even do things in their lives.

  4. imposter on March 6, 2023 at 5:56 am

By the time you can be free to play games even in moderation, you won’t need to. Exercise and focusing on your goals already is the natural way to activate your reward centres in your mind so it wouldn’t really serve any purpose to you. When I started making gains I went from playing games daily to basically never without even trying because it’s simply not needed

Every hobby can be addictive, some more than others. While I agree that just playing video games can be bad for you, but watching youtube videos, films, etc. (just name any hobby, really) all day long can be hurtfull as well. It all about balance. If you cannot balace your life, if you just work all year, not having fun, thats also as just bad as being addictive to a hobby. Have you ever heard of work addiction? Yeah, my father is just like that person. Is that life!? Nah, it just as bad if you are not balancing. Work can also "kill you" you know. Find balace in your life and you’ll be fine. Its tough but can be achieved. For me, that balace is my girfriend, for you it can be anybody/anything else. Stripping some thing out of your life is sometimes necessary (like drugs) but not having hobbies and just working all day long is can be just as damaging for you. Balancing is a harder task, I agree, but more rewarding for you on the long run.

I just wonder why I’m still sometimes "tired or unmotivated " when video games are my goal…

  7. Alex on March 6, 2023 at 5:59 am

Fun fact: 4:50 you only gonna achieve that when you cut videogames.

Videogames are make so you stuck your motivation to just play video games

I’m 11 and quite video games and it was my choice.

At this point terms like "dopamine" and "reward system" are little better than buzzwords. Not because they don’t exist, but because youtubers like this leverage these words to sound intelligent and sell their channels/self-help programs by preying on your emotions. I guarantee you that this Rob guy has little to no proper understanding of how the brain actually works. Hell, even neuroscientists barely understand how the brain works. I understand that my last statement sounds nonsensical to the uninitiated, but it is the truth. It is peak cringe for me whenever I hear someone who doesn’t at least have a PhD in a psychology or neurology related field try to talk about these subjects as though they actually were able to properly navigate the minefield filled with highly flawed research publications and come out the other side with anything even remotely resembling comprehension of what might be going on with our brains. Just stop. Please. I beg you.

  11. Sonic Mobian on March 6, 2023 at 6:05 am

If a Job is not motivating or fun then what is the point in living? Why work endlessly all your life with zero fun in your life? Until you end up dead in your grave. Being nothing but a cog in a machine? Someone that is broken is thrown out and replaced by someone else. I rather die than to be a cog in a machine. I go against the grain, I don’t want to live my life with just 100% work do things to push the envelop and die out. It does not even have to be games in general any type of fun activities like sports. Life is meant to be enjoyed, If your just a cog in the machine STOP IT! You can find a job that is fun and still live life. I won’t live a desk life that is super boring unless its game development.

  12. classybaxy on March 6, 2023 at 6:07 am

Yeah mate but we arent all the same. You see, My entire life goal isnt focused on video games. Yet I still play them.

  13. Rob Mulder on March 6, 2023 at 6:07 am

There are baby noise easter eggs in this video because my 3 day old daughter was lying next to me. Life long success and fresh dopamine systems will come to those that can point out the time stamps.

  14. Nie Mand on March 6, 2023 at 6:07 am

At the start you mention it. This self help swarm that infected the internet. Those people who believe to know a cure all for everyone. Just do as they say and boom, your life turns into magic. As if. I only see a bunch of people explaining how they turned in one addiction for another. Those people will never set themselves free. Because of how we think addiction works. Addiction is nothing but a wall you hide your actual problems behind. So you play video games to hide your problems – addiction. You binge drink to hide your problems – addiction. You eat till kingdom come – addiction. And instead of taking care for the problems, you get advice how to kick your addiction? So you learn to kick your hiding mechanism? Does it help to solve your underlying problems? I guess not. You just pretend to be another person now and become addicted to "being different". Still not solving your problems. Some people just don’t have thee deeply rooted problems and can game their lives away without losing their job or anything else.

  15. EternalAflame on March 6, 2023 at 6:09 am

I play games for like 2 hours a day and on youtube or a movie service for like 4 hours a day but i still go outside get fresh air and i have no mentall issues from the games i feel calm focused and energized

  16. David Aris on March 6, 2023 at 6:11 am

You had me till you compared video games to heroin. Although, I do agree with video games always being in the back of your mind when you’re trying to do other things, at least for most people.

  17. It’s Not A Phaze on March 6, 2023 at 6:11 am

I’ll say one thing, video games have strayed me away from all the bad things like underage drinking, drugs, sex all that stuff. Call me loser if you wish but I’m glad I wasn’t indulging myself in all those vices. I have never gone through a “big” period of my life without playing video games so I’ll start on that to see if anything changes. I’m scared if I give up games then my life will grow stale and boring. It was fun escaping to those digital worlds as a kid but now I’m an adult and I need to survive and thrive in the real world. I want to try new things and go new places but how can you leave a place that you known your entire life? Do I have the right to be scared or is it fear holding me back?

  18. Joel S 84 on March 6, 2023 at 6:13 am

So playing warzone from 9-10pm with my out of town childhood friends a few times a week is bad for me. Lmao foh

As a gamer I can say that this man speaks the truth. The topic is confusing but the results don’t lie.

  23. Trevis Hickson on March 6, 2023 at 6:23 am

That’s the thing I honestly think gaming may effect everyone differently cuz honestly speaking for myself whenever I have to put in work or have responsibilities gaming never clouded my mind the way y’all describe it . Prime example when I’m at the Gym lifting weights bro the LAST THING on my mind is a video game I’m focusing on my form and doing better then yesterday

  24. datztimmy on March 6, 2023 at 6:26 am

    Completed but it’s waste

  25. Anonym on March 6, 2023 at 6:28 am

It’s either you’re a gamer or you’re not. I realized one day that i am not a gamer and that’s what helped me quit for good.

  26. Tre4life on March 6, 2023 at 6:28 am

Iam happy to play games my goal in life is to be win in my Local Region?

  27. Oman Khan on March 6, 2023 at 6:29 am

This makes me sad 😅 lol 😂

  28. IsZarPlays on March 6, 2023 at 6:30 am

I subscribed and really liked your content. Thank you very much for the great videos. I cut out video games from my life since yesterday because I have more important goals and I am pretty sure there is nothing positive behind those virtual products. I am sure it’s going to be harsh at first because I have been a gamer since I was 6 years old, but I am a man and I will deal with it.

  29. Puvendran Pillay on March 6, 2023 at 6:30 am

    Yes videos games are bad

  30. Peanut on March 6, 2023 at 6:31 am

When I’m older I’m probably gonna cut out video games but plays it once awhile but more focused on making money because I’m only 14 so I don’t really do anything like a job I do have school but that’s easy so in the mean while I’m still gonna play video games.

  31. Nie Mand on March 6, 2023 at 6:32 am

Problem her4e as heard/seen is that you make it as if playing video games opposes living your life. Weird. Playing games is also a portion of my life but not the entirety of it nor the exact opposite. Are you just that religious?

  32. Che TheLion on March 6, 2023 at 6:34 am

Video games aren’t bad for you, there’s all types of games with legit lessons and its a hobby/ get away. People who claim video games are bad are the same people who don’t like others to be happy. And from my experience, people who don’t play video games are as smart either. Their intelligence levels are wayyyy too low. Odd.

  33. Bryan Sam on March 6, 2023 at 6:35 am

To be fair, a lot of of these things depend on the kind of games you play. There are some games that are designed to tell you a very good story, and there are some games that are designed to grab your attention all day with unlocks, loot boxes etc. Some games are simply logic based that require effort and experience and are designed to be shared among people. Hamza doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

  34. Le Schroder on March 6, 2023 at 6:38 am

Im sorry but the people who think video games ruin people’s lives are indubitable retarded. People more successful than me play video games. If they can hop on the game and still have time to run multi billion dollar companies why cant i play a hour worth of video games. Then go back to grinding and chasing the money?

  35. Danilo Oliveira 🇧🇷 on March 6, 2023 at 6:38 am

The explanation of being thinking about playing video games while doing some other stuff is what exactly happened to me and bring me here. I was reading my book today, but for some reason I started to think about the game I would Play after that, and how I was excited to finish that book as soon as possible to go and play video game… this is totally sucks.

  36. Jonathan Steven on March 6, 2023 at 6:39 am

Videogames ain’t the problem in this case, Actually when i study so hard and feel stressed, I need to play video games because video games will help you with your stressed and other things that is happen with your brain, video games make you feel so good and distracting, everyone needs entertaiment <3
it was a good video dude

  37. Internet Stranger on March 6, 2023 at 6:39 am

"It is an undeniable fact". No. No it is not. You are not an omnipotent god. You are just some guy. Who are you to tell us how the brain works? You are talking out of your ass based on anecdotal experiences and buzzword-filled monologues from other worker ant chimps like yourself. Also, video games are real life. Humans created video games. They exist within our physical reality. We even interact with people within them. They are very similar to board games. It’s just that instead of cards or cardboard, the playing field is lights on a screen. Just because they didn’t exist before does not mean they are not "real life". It’s great that cutting them out improved your life, but to try and extrapolate that to other people is incredibly arrogant and presumptuous and is predicated on the belief that you even understand the science behind dopamine and our reward system (hint: very few people do). Let’s not kid ourselves. You are trying to make money by spreading opinions guised as science that plays on the emotions of frustrated men. If your best life is running a channel for this purpose, then maybe quitting video games didn’t really do much for you after all.

  38. Mangetsu on March 6, 2023 at 6:41 am

videogames could be classified as a real addiction one day. But like the drug industry, that won’t stop it from going on.

  39. chang thao on March 6, 2023 at 6:41 am

    1. go to steam
    2. go look at any games review by the community

  42. Ieatballls evrydas on March 6, 2023 at 6:46 am

So you’re telling me I can be a drug addict that’s okay but being a gamer addict is bad?

  43. SpinXq on March 6, 2023 at 6:46 am

this is a total lie atleast for me i go to the gym 3 hours a day i have a job i do school and i never think when im doing it

  44. λlψκ-dεsιɢπs on March 6, 2023 at 6:46 am

I don’t even think video games are that bad, if f you compare it to something like social media, or porn. Because for video-games, especially competitive games you actually have to do something with your brain and hands. Social media/porn on the other hand requires no brain power what so ever. It’s just instant release of dopamine by doing pretty much nothing. I would rather spend my time playing video-games and getting better at them (only competitive like league or cs), then just mindlessly watching netflix, or scrolling through social media. And of course your main focus has to be on doing what you love and your responsibilities.

  45. Dark Skulls77 on March 6, 2023 at 6:46 am

So pretty much, you can video games to a to a certain degree, just don’t let it consume your life

  46. Archigeek on March 6, 2023 at 6:49 am

“Drugs are fun, so fun is a retarded argument” no offense intended but comparing video games to drugs is retarded itself

  47. Wolfking2491 on March 6, 2023 at 6:49 am

If you wanna play video gamea all your life do it. Who gives a fuck about oh if you stop playing life can be so much fun get the fuck out of here. 😂

  48. Sam Pedneau on March 6, 2023 at 6:50 am

From my experience with deep video game addiction, I found it to be more of the symptom of my problems. In my first half of college I was working on a major that had no future from a toxic department. Instead of hitting the books when I got home, I would binge on Diablo or Baldur’s Gate. When I changed majors and started to enjoy my studies, it was a total 180. I would play 2 hours tops and still study.

  49. Gorgeous Noxy on March 6, 2023 at 6:51 am

Thank you. This was definitely something I needed to hear.

  50. EVE on March 6, 2023 at 6:52 am

Sounds like personal responsibility and not the product.
Hate the player, not the game!
