Are you addicted to your phone? – BBC London

How many times do you check your mobile phone? Well according to a report out earlier this month it was estimated that the average Briton checked it every 12 minutes. For many of us it seems that keeping an eye on our messages and social media feeds are something of a habit. So the Royal Society for Public Health decided it was time to help the general public wean themselves off of their phones, for one month at least, as Jim Wheble reports.

I worked in healthcare in London from 2007 when smartphones came out. It became a huge issue in work. Staff and I mean nurses and hcs became more interested in their phones than doing patient care. They place i worked in banned them and it got worse with people constantly going onto toilets and storage rooms to check their phones.

I am dependent on it. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Social media and my phone, all this is part of my life. But I can drop my phone and go out without it. Or I can leave it my room. I use my phone "so much" but I don’t use it "too much"

I love how a program about not looking at phones makes people sign up on an iPad…

It kind of pisses me off (people talking/ texting). I get you’re trying to kill time, but at work like retail or kitchen environment it kind of effects people who trying not to fall behind. I don’t mind in a construction environment because there are times where you need to wait on material and equipment. At the end of the day your phone is either a tool to making you life easier or made you liability to yourself and others.

Complete phone zombies. Totally selfish behaviour and they keep bumping into things and people when walking. Very moronic.

I’ll try and make this quick and to the point. I was driving along the High Street in Leatherhead, Surrey, recently. It is a narrow street in the heart of the town. I was approaching what is the narrowest section of the road and there was this young girl (maybe 18 – 22 years old) standing on the pavement on the right face in her phone. I am approaching where she is standing, suddenly, she starts walking slowly across the road, glued to her phone, and is not at all aware that there is a car approaching just several feet away. I came to a sudden halt. Know what? She was not aware of me, the car, or anything – crazy!

I am watching a video about addiction to phones from a phone. That’s ironic.
