That item discribed at 2:48 is NOT a wire connector, it’s a pin puller! What you use to insert/remove pins when making crimp connections.

I used to love browsing Tanners.  Then I moved to Utah.  Only one surplus store here, Ra-Elco in Salt Lake.  Think of Tanners squeezed into 1/10 the size but with more parts!

  17. Species 5618 on August 4, 2022 at 1:29 am

After being born and raised in North Texas, I think Tanners is the thing I miss most since moving away (I sure don’t miss 110 degree summers, millions of people crammed into a few hundred square miles and especially traffic at rush hour on LBJ or Stemmons). Tanners (and I assume they are still in business) is a great place. I live in Utah now and we have a similar place in Salt Lake called Ra-ElCo, although it’s more like a garage sale than a surplus house.

Resistors limit the flow of voltage & current. I think this is an easy way to explain what they do.

42:30 TRS isn’t L/R ground. It’s either unbalanced stereo, or balanced mono (w/ ground). Right?

I wouldn’t want to take a basic electronics class with you. Having taught and been an engineer for 20 years. You have given false information.

  32. tom lyons on August 4, 2022 at 1:46 am

My last comment sent last night may not of got accepted, not to worry, but forgot to mention another electronic surplus outlet here in Croydon used to be ‘Display Electronics’, run by a sadly deceased David Fisher, loads of used unused electronic components, but long sadly all gone, if I had the finance, I would set up one here in South London, Tom, Crystal Palace, London.

  33. Bri G. on August 4, 2022 at 1:47 am

Where did you find a Parts Store? About the only one here in the LA area is All Electronics, a surplus store. they have a free catalog. It’s really fun to go to their store, it’s close by me. But all of the other Parts Houses have closed in my area.

Hey uncle can tell her and give her my email

  35. tom lyons on August 4, 2022 at 1:52 am

Yes, I wish we had a store like this here in South London, we used to have smaller electronic surplice stores just down the road here in Whitehorse Road, Thornton Heath, then a small place near Cherry Orchard Road in near East Croydon, but nowadays we sadly have expensive stores like maplins, rs components, charging £13 for a small heatsink just to cool a couple of small transistors, the list goes on, however I sometimes find discarded electronic items such as audio items, to which I pick up and cart away on my bicycle, my kitchen back here in Crystal Palace resembles something of a workshop, but it’s a hobby, best regards to you all, Tom, Crystal Palace, London.
