Best Compact Smartphones (2022) | Top 10 Mini Mobiles

Reviewing the best compact phones in 2022, small enough for easy one-handed use, and pleasingly mini to fit into any pocket or bag. My favourite compact smartphones including Google’s Pixel 5a and 4a (ahead of the 6a launch), Samsung’s Galaxy S22, Apple’s iPhone 13 Mini, Sony’s Xperia 5 iii and foldable ‘bendy’ phones like Motorola RAZR 5G and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3. Not forgetting one of the greatest phones of 2022 so far, the Xiaomi 12!

Some links to buy:

Moto Razr 5G: https://howl.me/chv12ElSvOX
Galaxy Z Flip 3: https://howl.me/chv12En9sto
Samsung Galaxy 22: https://howl.me/chvXd7PA9b9

Here’s reviews of my favourite dinky handsets right now and how they stack up for specs, camera tech, performance, gaming, battery life and beyond.

In a world of massive mobiles, these compact blowers are perfect for one-hand play. Among the best is Google’s Pixel 5a, which boasts one of the greatest smartphone cameras at a mid-range asking price. The 4a is an alternative if you don’t live in the US, but that Pixel 6a should be just around the corner.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 is a solid choice in most regards, although the battery life is far from good. If you want a premium compact device with dependable battery performance, flexible camera chops and strong specs, the Xiaomi 12 is a better choice.

If you’re more of an iOS fan, check out the iPhone 13 Mini. Apple’s small mobile is still easy to use with one mitt despite that brick-like design. Just don’t get the iPhone SE 2022 whatever you do. Personally I prefer Sony’s Xperia 5 iii, which sports a notch-free 21:9 display, pro camera tech, and some great media smarts.

The Moto RAZR 5G is also rather nifty, provided you have the budget for it. That bendy OLED screen means the RAZR folds up super compact, just like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 – one of my favourite foldable smartphones right now.

Check out my reviews/unboxings of these mobiles here on Tech Spurt for more info!

I used to only have Androids before. Bought last iPhone this year just to try… My next smartphone will definitely be on Android.

Wonder what’s going on with Motorola Edge 30 lite – first specs said that this smartphone will have 6.28" screen…

  7. Adrian MH on February 15, 2023 at 4:45 am

Used Pixel 5a costing currently as much as a new Pixel 6a. Google is not listening to customers instead make brick sized devices and not caring about design. Holding on to my 3a until something appealing comes around. It is literally falling apart at this point though.

I’m using 13mini and s10e. 13mini is too small for me very slightly. and s10e is best size for me. normal models from Samsung like a s20 s22 are almost same with s10e but you can feel differences when you hold it

  9. Di Tokelio on February 15, 2023 at 4:52 am

    My dream:
    – no notch
    – usable cam(no need for anything special)
    – 1080p 60fps 60hz display
    – less than 6inch
    – good cpu and ram
    – decent battery
    – headphone jack
If anyone has a good reccomendation pls let me know, even if it is gonna cost me 1k+

It feels like these companies don’t understand that people will spend the same amount if not more just for a smaller version, it doesn’t have to go down in price for a smaller phone.

IтАЩm looking for an affordable 5 inch smartphone thatтАЩs not insanely too small like the Atom

  11. shibotto on February 15, 2023 at 5:01 am

    Anything with a 3.5"/4" screen?

  12. TS on February 15, 2023 at 5:02 am

None of these enormous glass toys are in any way "compact".
Anything that extrudes out of my palm and essentially requires two hands to be operated = too big.
    5" is already stretching it.

  13. Anthony Diaz on February 15, 2023 at 5:03 am

I still have my Sony XZ1 Compact from November of 2017, and it still works fine minus the battery life decline. I haven’t got a new phone since because all the new phones that claim to be compact are bigger than this one.

  14. Samgyup on February 15, 2023 at 5:05 am

6.6 is too big for me, We want handy phone too

  15. I. K. on February 15, 2023 at 5:05 am

5.9 is WAY to large for my hands. And I am not even a short person. These sizes are just insane, considering most people have tablets or laptops as well. Who watches movies on their smartphone??

  16. Tauquir Iqbal on February 15, 2023 at 5:05 am

best and expensive, Atleast give cheaper options like xcover 5 which 5.3 inch and around 200 euros.

  17. Allen Jay on February 15, 2023 at 5:06 am

I realized how expensive these are for my standards. Is there any budget compact phones that performs like a big 2022 200$ smartphone?

S10e is still the best small flagship android phone made by samsung. Im still using it until now. I wish that they should make again a flagship phone with a similar dimension or smaller.

  31. Anthony Diaz on February 15, 2023 at 5:19 am

Any cell phone above 5.25" is not compact in my opinion.

  32. C_On on February 15, 2023 at 5:19 am

Made me lough. Though I was looking for a cheap compact phones these are all quite premium

  33. khj on February 15, 2023 at 5:21 am

What is the use case for a large smartphone anyway? Playing games and watching movies at home? I have a PC for that.

  34. Kopp├бny Botty├бn on February 15, 2023 at 5:22 am

these newer phones are so wide and ugly. Hate it!

  35. there is a lie on February 15, 2023 at 5:22 am

I just have small hands. Why do people think that using one handedly, something size of ipad mini is a good idea?!

2022 No compact phone can still beat iphone 5 SE.

  38. Ben Samara on February 15, 2023 at 5:23 am

Non of these tablets are compact phones!

  39. fewf wefwef on February 15, 2023 at 5:24 am

    those are huge phones…

  40. nuXx on February 15, 2023 at 5:24 am

I would love a iPhone mini for me. But then again, I don’t like the OS.

And not a single android phone is in the range of this size. Zenfone 9 is the closest contender but seems to be bad at real life Fotos. S22 has issues with the battery.

    Fuck it.

  41. Matt B on February 15, 2023 at 5:25 am

Other than that silly folding phone, the SE is the smallest phone you review here, so it should win. People who are looking for small phones value SMALL SIZE over anything else.

  42. JIJICA100 on February 15, 2023 at 5:29 am

Why is there no budget compact phone? All the budget phones are huuuge? Does anyone understand the reason for this?

  43. Richard Branson on February 15, 2023 at 5:29 am

Every year we move further away from God.

  44. UGB_Aventador15 on February 15, 2023 at 5:30 am

I’ve got the S22, a fantastic phone, battery life is perfectly fine, I don’t know what you’re on about lol, otherwise good video.

  45. My Opinion Doesn't Matter on February 15, 2023 at 5:31 am

Pixel 5a is a lot bigger than any standard-sized phone (Samsung S22, Xiaomi 12, iPhone 12/13…), so not a compact by any means, the only compact phone is the iPhone 12/13 mini, even the smallest Androids like the Sony Xperia 5/10 IV or Asus Zenfone 8/9 are too big to be called compact.

  46. Li Me on February 15, 2023 at 5:32 am

Only the iphone 13 mini is really compact, this video is a fake

  47. Aka Konoha on February 15, 2023 at 5:33 am

I cannot believe mobile phone companies don’t listen to consumers. First rule of business: supply & demand ? ЁЯдФ

  48. Matt B on February 15, 2023 at 5:34 am

iPhone SE 3 > 13 Mini. Why? Because I don’t have to deal with Face ID, and I can have my phone wait to auto-lock in 4 hours instead of immediately, which I find HIGHLY annoying. I will never buy an iPhone that forces me to lock my phone instantly, and probably won’t buy one that requires facial identification as well. I also have smallish hands and can’t stand larger phones. The top of the 13 Mini’s screen is much higher than the top of the SE’s, so using the SE with one hand is still much easier. With all these giant phones you’d think developers would start putting controls and search fields at the BOTTOM of the screen instead of the top, but NOPE.

  49. Marc Marco on February 15, 2023 at 5:35 am

At last, someone sane about the size of smartphones !! My life doesn"t revolve around my phone (*gasp!*) and I want to be able to put it in my pocket and use it with ONE FREAKING HAND !!!

  50. Anthony Diaz on February 15, 2023 at 5:37 am

Check Unihertz Jelly 2,but it’s not 5G compatible.
I’m waiting for them to make a 5g compatible compact phone . The new ones they have been making are bigger now too but I have hope.
