Classic Cell Phone Collection Part 3: Nokia 8890 1999

Classic Cell Phone Collection Part 3: Nokia 8890 1999

This is my extremely luxurious Nokia 8890 from 1999. This phone has infrared like my 8290 so I was able to do a really awesome showcase of 2-player Snake. The infrared ports are extremely weak because it disconnects if the two phone’s ports aren’t touching each other. Enjoy!

Does it have picture messages like the last one?

  2. Max Cadenasso on November 26, 2020 at 9:01 pm

No it’s not repainted. It’s all-original. Got it from a guy from New York who bought it new with his wireless contract back in 2000.

Great vid! I had one Nokia 8850 back in that time. It was the same, but european version with built in (non-extractable) antenna. For sure, the white backlight ant the metal housing made it the coolest, classiest phone of all the time.

interesting. I definately would love to take a trip back in time with an 8890/8850. I was just getting to the age of early adult hood when all those phones came out and were rockin the world scene. At the end of ’02 I remember huge billboards advertising the coming of the savior itself, the 8910i. Then EVERYTHING WENT TO CHEAP PLASTIC for many many years.

Where would you find a new battery for this phone once yours dies? Do they still make the battery for it? I hope so, because rechargable batteries only last about 10 years or so max under ideal circumstances from what I understand.
I will buy this phone from you if you’re interested.

There’s this website called "All of Craigs" and it searches every Craigslist site in the U.S. (maybe Canada too or Canada might have an equivalent site). I searched that site for a a week or two and found this one being sold on the New York Craigslist. I asked for high-res pics and asked about micro-scratches and once it all checked out I offered him his asking price plus $15 (I think, maybe $20) to ship it out to me. Payed a personal payment through PayPal. I got my Ericsson T28z the same way.

Do you mean "Trio?" Do the 3 "DO’s" go up in pitch?

  29. Max Cadenasso on November 26, 2020 at 9:52 pm

Search eBay for BLB-2. Some people still make non-OEM ones but I would imagine OEM batteries are at least 3-5 years old.

In my experience, batteries can last a lot longer than 10 years. I have at least a dozen batteries from the 90’s that still work today. The trick is to charge them once every 6 months to a year. Li-ion batteries have a chip in them that doesn’t allow recharging if they drop below a certain voltage. As long as you keep them above that level they’ll last for a really long time.

  31. Max Cadenasso on November 26, 2020 at 9:53 pm

Nope. I don’t know where you’re from but they come up on eBay and Craigslist every now and again.
