Tha k you for a brilliant idea 👌😃. I have been looking towards purchasing a Prestige-class Ibanez, but with alterations, like this I might come close enough and save some money also.

Guitar that cost 370$ is not "budget guitar"

  3. birdsongz7 on August 23, 2021 at 9:51 pm

The White Knob look is Way Kool! Shalom, birdsongz

What is this particular model name
    Anyone?

  5. Danthehorse on August 23, 2021 at 9:55 pm

Still got my SA160fm from 2001. These guitars definitely deserve pickup upgrades, the stock ones are a bit weak sounding.

  6. Vera Fallen on August 23, 2021 at 9:57 pm

I would keep the chrome knobs.

  7. Jeremy Rafuse on August 23, 2021 at 9:57 pm

"It’ll be good because these tuners don’t require any drilling if I want to put back in the stock tuners and sell this guitar."

"Let’s get the Dremell and grind out the bridge pickup holder."

  8. Michael Contos on August 23, 2021 at 9:59 pm

Love the quilted maple and color. I’d like to build one with the same color, pickup’s and tuners. Apparently as of 6/21 you can’t find any on the used market. These must be a hot commodity and/or people are holding onto theirs.

  9. gtr1952 on August 23, 2021 at 9:59 pm

Personally, I would never go through that expense and time without changing out the cheap pots, switch and jack. That in itself would have helped. I just can’t nickle and dime things… JMHO… –gary

What grit sanding block and steel wool are you using on the neck?

  11. W.Wright Jackson on August 23, 2021 at 10:02 pm

your the best brother, doubt there are many vids you’ve put out there that I haven’t watched. I ‘ve learned so much watching your vids plus you add some good humor to them.. Thanks brother. Keep on pickin and grinnin from Nashville, Tn.

As always your videos rule !

  15. nathan meeks on August 23, 2021 at 10:06 pm

It needs those chrome knobs, cuz the white ones made to much white.BRING OUT THE CHROME!!!!!!!

  16. The_GuitAar on August 23, 2021 at 10:06 pm

For those new to guitars, never use steel wool. It’s magnetic and no matter how hard you try you will get steel wool in your pickups. Bronze wool is non-ferrous, but just spend the money and get some mac sanding blocks with different grits.

Sorry I do not buy guitars from China.

White knobs pulled it together. Nice touch.

I was able to buy this same model here in my country in Brown Burst. Love it. I’m also planning to upgrade it just the you did. Was wondering if the these Graph Tech Ratio locking tuners will fit my Ibanez SA160FML. It’s a lefty Guitar?

  21. Oswald Montoya on August 23, 2021 at 10:13 pm

can you send me all the things that you are not using? please 🙂

I had a 160QM in amber, was really really nice, wish I wouldnt have gotten rid of it

  23. evilcowboy on August 23, 2021 at 10:14 pm

ummm question, Do you set your bridge pickup so low it doesn’t ever clear a pickup ring? The reason I ask is I cannot figure out why you didn’t just feed the wire through the front of the ring and then slide it up to the back of the pickup?

considering that part of the pickup is sitting above the ring and the base of it is smaller then you wouldn’t have to modify the ring.

And yes you should pin this comment so others don’t do it, since there is a work around for that.

Also when you need a block that fits a trem and its proprietary and can’t find one……that scenario is literally what a machine shop does and why they exist. You just need to bring the original block and tell them you want one made from brass. They don’t charge that much is usually reasonable.

Darrell small pots are not bad as everyone tries to make them they just don’t have large sweep range you get with bigger pots but don’t change tone and they might wear out faster but I have in guitars bought 90 still working

  25. Michael Seymour on August 23, 2021 at 10:15 pm

i hate the recess for the jack input …i mean i like the look and idea …but i cant get my freekin cable out of it ..and have wrecked a couple of leads !!!

  26. Gary Barnes on August 23, 2021 at 10:17 pm

    Chrome knobs and switch cap

  27. randy pettit on August 23, 2021 at 10:17 pm

I think we all appreciate your honesty about finding this guitar used. Ibanez, on the other hand, probably not too happy. All’s fair in love and guitars tho lol

  28. Redsuns ZOMBIE on August 23, 2021 at 10:18 pm

You are a great musician but I feel like you play all style guitars like you play a tele. You can just tell thats where your style lies i guess. Very nice guitar.

  29. Golf Hound on August 23, 2021 at 10:18 pm

I just went to the ibanez website and they no longer make the SA series guitar.

  30. Rollin Likeariver on August 23, 2021 at 10:18 pm

I just bought the GRG121DXWNF. I got tired of soft metal floyd rose guitars of the past so I bought a hard tail. Also the guitar you are working on now is closer to $300 these days. I’d probably get another floyd guitar though if i was spending $300. Because now I miss the floyd rose; I can upgrade the guitar to a better one. The Jackson 32 with floyd rose and mahogany body for about $300 is that I would get. But I do like this guitar and great video thanks!

  31. duarte estelita on August 23, 2021 at 10:19 pm

the middle "single coil" was really surprising. Really bright! I loved the position 4 clean tone. Its sounds fantastic..!
    Thanks for this, Darrell !

  32. SebastianZub on August 23, 2021 at 10:23 pm

Great upgrades and the pickups are amazing (looks and sound). Darrell, for the next mod project (I know this video is 2 years old), would it be possible to be an Ibanez Jem Jr.? Me and I bet there are more subs that would want to see that 🙂
p.s: The Ratio tuners you used, the link isn’t taking to the exact product anymore but and I think I found the ones you used, but it’s saying in the description they are for the right-handed. Are the ones with the PRL-8721-C0 code? I have a Washburn that I wanna buy them for (or even for my future Jem Jr.) 🙂

  33. Percy Thrower on August 23, 2021 at 10:24 pm

Hi Darrell. Really useful video as always. I want to change tuners on my SA – would you be able to tell me which SPECIFIC Graph Tech ones you’ve used here? Please?! I have to get me some! RSVP if at all possible. I’d be incredibly grateful. Thanks and all the best from me in England. PT

  34. Jeremy Rafuse on August 23, 2021 at 10:24 pm

Also, why does this guy showing himself change out the tuners but he never shows himself soldering? Do you seriously not know how to solder Darrell?

  35. Our Job on August 23, 2021 at 10:24 pm

Hhhmmmm, pole pieces magnets! But why my SA460 has a cheap version of this pups with ceramic bar magnets???

  36. Johannes Silver on August 23, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Nice mod and informative video but few things. I would have liked to hear the guitar before the mod and make a comparison. Other thing, you did not include the soldering part of the mod…how the wires go. Or is it that instructions are clear for it? Trem looks quite fine as do the chrome knobs. By the way how to install the humbucker without the ring and make it still adjustable?

  37. Carl Manthey on August 23, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Darrell Braun guitars. I have an sa 160 with a sat 30. Is there an upgrade for that trem that requires minimal modification?

  39. W.Wright Jackson on August 23, 2021 at 10:26 pm

white classes it up some. feel may be better with steel knobs but I believe the ascetics with white looks better. You da man Darrell you da man

  40. Thechico Tube on August 23, 2021 at 10:26 pm

    Silver knobs were more premium

  41. Nicholas Johnston on August 23, 2021 at 10:26 pm

What grit sanding block is that?

  42. mike addison-saipe on August 23, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Darrell – awesome video. Question – what oil did you use on the fingerboard?

  43. Ab on August 23, 2021 at 10:29 pm

Loved your video on the Vega-trem. I have got a SA and wondering if that can take the vega-trem. Please advise, Thanks,

  44. tom opie on August 23, 2021 at 10:32 pm

Because of these two videos… found a black one on the net for 200 bones.
Daryl is right. The neck is fantastic.
Pick ups sound pretty darn good.
I did replace tuners with Gotoh in-line locking tuners for 60 bucks and they work great.
Stays in tune even using the tremolo.
Because of that neck I keep on picking this one up. Thanks a million Daryl!

  45. Mark Malanaphy on August 23, 2021 at 10:32 pm

silver knobs i think look better..white ones I think make the guitar look cheap

  46. John Norris on August 23, 2021 at 10:39 pm

Once again the Messa Blue Angel rocks.

  47. Sontino S on August 23, 2021 at 10:39 pm

…this video really makes me wanna put some white pickups into my guitar. Looks totally awesome. But it’s gonna be a bit expensive, like almost the price for the whole guitar… (I have exactly this guitar as a travel instrument for holidays)

  48. Rollin Likeariver on August 23, 2021 at 10:39 pm

Wow those pickups sell for about $500! 🙂

  49. Jim Suber on August 23, 2021 at 10:41 pm

Now if we can just find some actual Rock Bands. Nice video though

  50. Vincent Rodrigue on August 23, 2021 at 10:44 pm
