DAB-P9 Mini DAB Radio with FM/MP3 (National Yellow Radio Day 2022)

DAB-P9 Mini DAB Radio with FM/MP3 (National Yellow Radio Day 2022)

June 1 is National Yellow Radio Day, a day created by The Radiogeek in 2018 and is celebrated every year. This year, I made a review video of the DAB-P9 Mini DAB Radio with FM & MP3 player. I bought this radio for $27.40 plus tax from Amazon. It normally sells for about $35.00.

I couldn’t get my SD Card function to work. When selecting the mode, the phrase "SD Connect" is flashing without anything being done. Maybe it’s some menu selection trick? Does this function on yours work? I’ve tested it with various audio formats, maybe it’s "picky" with the card brand?

It’s the most sensitive DAB+ receiver I’ve ever seen. Picks up more than 120 stations (from 4 countries) at my location, where much more expensive radios only pick up 70. Sound quality is really impressive, considering its size. FM is only mono, even with headphones, while DAB is stereo. The MP3 player is flying blind, since it does not display titles or even track numbers. For me it’s just the perfect sized radio, reminds me of the pocket AM radios of the early 70’s.

Hey! The RDS isn’t buggy, the radio itself just was not made for the United States market!!
The reason why the RDS displayed the PTY as Education is because the US uses the RBDS standard, which has some differences, in this case the Rock genre (PTY 5) in RBDS is Education in standard RDS. I hope this clears some confusion. <3

At some point in time I think that HD radio will probably get taken down and DAB will take its place. Some TV frequencies would have to get shuffled but that’s not a surprise. I have read that the FM band is going to be expanded and extended downward. Very few if any of these frequencies are used for TV anymore. The entire thing is a mess and needs to be redone and re-regulated. DAB is simply a form of modulation and could be placed on any portion of spectrum except maybe something low. Have a great Yellow Radio Day!
