Dell computer XPS8940 purchased from John Lewis customer service from both companies zero

Purchased this Dell Computer which was the most expensive Dell Computer at the time on John Lewis website two months later decided to upgrade the RAM to 64 gigs the computer can handle up to 128 gigs RAM was purchased direct from Dell when I get a problem both the company John Lewis who sold me the computer and Dell who are the manufacturer give me the worst customer experience I’ve ever had I don’t know what’s happened to John Lewis the customer service used to be 2nd to none they were the best now I very much doubt if I will ever buy anything from John Lewis ever again as for Dell if you want to spend weeks upon months on a WhatsApp to them then go ahead and purchase a Dell computer or product from them because the minute it goes wrong they walk away .

You have a non overclockable cpu, vrm heatsink isnt needed and is not dangerious at all unless you are overclocking, which by the way you are not o.O

I was so confused … I’m from US and thought John Lewis was a person ! It wasn’t until almost 6 minutes in that I realized it was an online company that sells computers !!

So do you have any update ?

What terrible customer service you’re being supplied by two major companies thanks for the warning I was thinking of buying a new computer I definitely will not be buying from these retailers of this company

Dell XPS8940 does not support 8Gx4 Ram. You could try 16Gx2 or 16×4 if need more ram. Yea that’s disgusting. https://www.dell.com/community/XPS-Desktops/XPS-8940-memory-upgrade-of-2x8GB/td-p/7779679

I have a xps8940 with an intel i9 10900, I had to upgrade the crappy CPU cooler and case fans to even get good temps. I ended up upgrading my cooler and if you feel comfortable doing the same I recommend it. For the upgrade the CPU cooler I used was the NH-U9S 92mm, it fits in the case with a bit of space to spare despite being a tower cooler, it also comes with thermal paste, so I recommend cleaning your cpu and applying fresh paste. As for the upgraded system fan it was NF-A9 92mm. Both the cooler and the fan worked off of the motherboard fan headers. When you detach the stock dell computer you essentially just stack the Noctua hardware on top and thread through the M3 16mm screws(I saw a post on the dell forums suggesting 14mm but those are hard to find at a hardware store.), you won’t use the Noctua backplate. I do recommend getting M3 washers just to spread the point of contact out at the top of the mounting hardware, as my screw heads were small. This solution leaves cpu temps idle at about 28 degrees celsius and under heavy load(rendering cad or running ArcGIS) it peaks around 70 degrees. I hope this solution helps and I’m sorry to hear about your poor experience with Dell.

With all these replacement motherboards and CPUs not doing the trick, I’d say it was obviously something with the RAM sticks. What sticks did you get? Are they from Dell?

My experience with Dell is quite the opposite. I purchased my XPS 8940 and was shipped within 3-4 days FedEx shipping . It came to the Fedex distribution center near my home and was to be delivered the following day. But then Fedex postponed that delivery to the next day, then there was a “delivery exception” the next day and no attempt to deliver was made. Then deliver was Scheduled for Wednesday but was a no show. Then no update to deliver for 3 days. This morning (Saturday) Fedex update said it was on the deliver vehicle to be delivered. However the delivery was not until Monday! Through all of this I reached out to Dell to tell them how poorly Fedex handled this shipment. The Dell service representative said he would pass on my frustration to his department head. In an email he said he offering a to me a $50 credit as a token apology for the mishandling of the shipment by Fedex! This is not just a credit on a future purchase but a credit on the Visa card is used when I purchased my computer. I’m telling this story because it’s still in progress. It’s Saturday morning so I have to wait till Monday to see if Fedex will really deliver. Dell didn’t have to do anything really, it’s not their fault the Fedex was so negligent in this situation. But they made a goodwill effort to keep me as a customer and that is greatly appreciated.

OT:. Is a Dell Inspiron 3880 desktop PC a good computer to consider purchasing for basic home office work? No gamer here. I need to replace a 17 year old Dell desktop PC with Windows XP. What brand of computer besides a Dell should I consider buying?

Hey mate, I happen to know a lot about computers. Have you managed to turn it on already? I couldn’t watch the full video because I’m in a hurry but would like to assist you anyway (free of charge)

What idiot designed this pc? Its obviously got a poorly made Dell motherboard, pathetic PSU totally incapable of providing enough power and is not configured properly. To top this off they still provide the same crappy cooler! (when its obvious a hot CPU like this should come with a AIO cooler.)

It would have been far far cheaper and far better to just build it yourself, (if you could actually purchase a graphics card in 2021)
