Dr. David Agus: Cell phone cancer risk not "cause for alarm"
A new study on cellphone radiation is raising cancer fears. Researchers say lab animals exposed to the same type of radiation found in cell phones had increased rates of brain and heart tumors. CBS News contributor Dr. David Agus, who leads the Westcide Cancer Center at the University of Southern California, joins “CBS This Morning” to explain the study’s findings and why he is skeptical.
Bradford Hill’s viewpoints from 1965 on show a causal link with increased glioma risk from use of mobile or cordless phones.

World Health Organisation says mobile phone use is a class 2b carcinogen: possibly carcinogenic to humans. The counter argument to that is ‘so is coffee’ but think of the long term exposure risks.
Radiation makes rats live longer wow that’s weird
Typical alarmism! If cellular signals are as dangerous as people are toting them to be, then why is the same group not freaking out over visible light exposure??
I know people will try to reply with something like “WUT?!1 light an cell fone signal are n0t da sam3 thing .. stay in sk00L!!1”
It seems that almost nobody is, even in the slightest, educated on the electromagnetic spectrum. If they were, they’d know that visible light and cell phone signals, which is microwaves by the way, are the exact same thing, barring frequency.
Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation that has a MUCH HIGHER frequency than cellular signals.
People hear the word “radiation” and automatically assume radioactive nuclear material type stuff. Ridiculous. We’re going to all get cancer stressing over the supposed dangers of cell phones. SMH.
Distance is your friend with cellphones. Even a short distance away gives you substantially less exposure,” she says. Using the phone with a headset or on speaker is safer, she says.
Davis tells people if they’re going to carry their cellphone next to their body, put it in airplane mode, which drops the radiation.
Parents need to be especially cautious letting kids play with their phone. Kids’ growing tissues are more vulnerable to damage.
“We have to stop thinking of these things as toys and playthings for kids,” she says. “These are bad ideas.”
Lastly, she says the most dangerous time to use a phone is when the signal is weak. Phones are smart, so they’ll boost their energy output to try to connect to a base tower.
“Only use it for a true emergency when the signal is weak,” she says.
The last name Agus means A term that has been used to describe abnormal cells that come from glands in the walls of the cervix (the lower, narrow end of the uterus). These abnormal cells are found in a small number of Pap smears (a procedure used to detect cervical cancer) and may be a sign of more serious lesions or cancer.
Who’s up for a friendly game of lawn darts?
The doctor doesn’t know what he is talking about and is
spreading outright false information. The study was performed by the US
National Toxicology Program (NTP) and was very well designed. It cost over $25
million dollars and was the most careful, comprehensive and conclusive study
done so far. It used near field cell phone type radiation with exposure for a 2
year period to reproduce chronic exposure in humans. It was peer reviewed by a
committee of scientists and was not intended to be published because the NTP is
part of the government and the US toxicology authority. The reviewing
scientists, experts in the field, confirmed that it found clear evidence of
cancer from CDMA and GSM cell phone radiation in male rats. The female rats
also had lesions that could turn into tumors as well. The criticisms that he
cites have all been rebutted. The study found that one in twelve (8.5%) of the
540 male rats exposed to cellphone radiation developed cancer or pre-cancerous
cells as compared to none of the 90 rats in the control condition. The doctor
is speaking like a cell phone industry shill. Following are the peer reviewed findings
CDMA-Modulated RFR Under the conditions of this 2-year
whole-body exposure study, there was clear evidence of carcinogenic activity of
CDMA-modulated cell phone RFR at 900 MHz in male Hsd:Sprague Dawley SD rats
based on the incidences of malignant schwannoma of the heart. The incidences of
malignant glioma of the brain were also related to RFR exposure. The incidences
of adenoma of the pars distalis of the pituitary gland and adenoma or carcinoma
(combined) of the liver may have been related to RFR exposure. There was
equivocal evidence of carcinogenic activity of CDMA-modulated cell phone RFR at
900 MHz in female Hsd:Sprague Dawley SD rats based on the incidences of
malignant schwannoma of the heart, malignant glioma of the brain, and benign,
malignant, or complex pheochromocytoma (combined) of the adrenal medulla.
Increases in nonneoplastic lesions of the heart, brain, and prostate gland in
male rats, and of the brain in female rats occurred with exposures to
CDMA-modulated RFR at 900 MHz.

Agencies in the US gov’t because of military radar exposure and
the cell phone industry combined have been hiding research showing damage from
cell phone RF and EMF type radiation for decades. Cancer is just the tip of the
ice berg. This is going to become a far bigger scandal than the tobacco
companies hiding smoking caused cancers. It has been going on for decades. The
first quality research showing damaging effects from EMF (electromagnetic
fields) was peer reviewed and published in 1948 from the U of Iowa and
separately from the Mayo clinic the same year on cataracts in animals and
reproductive problems in male mice. In the 1950s and 60s more studies came out
showing damage at very low dosages well below current FCC limits. The military
stopped funding studies that showed damage at low energy intensities so very
little research continued with gov’t funding. Still there are currently
thousands of reviewed and duplicated studies showing problems with chromosomes,
DNA, reproduction, cancer, immune system, leakage of blood brain barrier,
diabetes and more.
