Thanks a lot for your videos John! I would pretty much appreciate your opinion about which of the latest MacBook Pro’s I should go for 🙂

So the main use will be music production (ableton).
I would like to be able to use the laptop at least for 5 years and be able to use if needed equipment such as Maschine (Native Instruments), Bass station 2 (Novation), Launchpad or launchkey (Novation) or even Ableton Push 2.

    Should I go for MBC:
    13in – 32GB ram i7 (4 core) 2020
    or
    16In – 16GB ram – i9 (8 core) 2019
    They both have similar price.
    Or should I better consider
    16in – 16GB ram – i7 (6 core) 2019 – cheaper compared to the other 2 models mentioned before.

Would any of these have issues in long term with the cooling system? Someone mentioned to me that i7 would be a safer option at 16in compared to i9 as previous 15in Mac’s with i9 could have issues after 3 years due to their cooling system…

Thanks in advance for your time! ☺

thanks for this. im a hippie singer-songwriter gone goth electronic musician needing some help. it was so much easier when it was just me and my instrument😭😂

Hey John! I’ve picked up the Launchkey Mini MK3, connected it to my Macbook which has allowed me access to the Ableton Live Lite software software download and am up and running. I’ve been writing some midi in for my drums, using 909 and my mouse to write the midi instructions for the kick, clap, rim, snare, etc. Are you going to be making some videos on how to start using the Launchkey Mini for writing in bass, melodies, strings, etc? Would be really useful!

  7. Ryan Bisson on January 27, 2022 at 1:52 pm

I play piano, so I already have studio monitors, a sub, and a mixer/usb interface. I have the Yamaha HS8’s, so you still recommend headphones? Also, I have a Kawai MP11SE, is this good enough of a midi controller, or should I invest in a different midi controller?

  8. sam driver on January 27, 2022 at 1:54 pm

So if I buy the MIDI keyboard with pad, is there anything I could need and not have with Ableton lite as opposed to if I had the MIDI and Ableton live?

  9. Shabiha Nishi on January 27, 2022 at 1:54 pm

You are so clear and straight to the point, I really appreciate it <3 I watched a bunch of "Equipment for Beginners" videos just for fun and none compare to yours. I leave each of your videos with a greater understanding and no confusion. Thank you!

  10. bert doorn on January 27, 2022 at 1:58 pm

i have the sennheiser 280 PRO, do you like that headphone too

  11. Jacob lenhoff on January 27, 2022 at 1:58 pm

cool! all i need is a MiDi keyboard, some samples, and good mic. this is easier than i thought but i still have lots to do. thank you!

    Severely underrated video

  20. Ollie H on January 27, 2022 at 2:06 pm

Excellent video. As others said, so many other instructional videos are overly complex and make electronic music production seem like a daunting prospect for complete beginners. Your advice is friendly and easy to understand. You’ve given me the confidence now to make a start on this, thank you my friend!

  21. Prima Murdock on January 27, 2022 at 2:06 pm

I appreciate how you go through everything with detail and not a rushed pace. Some of those other tutorials are so quick, I’m like "Wait, wait, wait. Hold on!" Also great how you gave reasons why you preferred some gear over others instead of just naming a bunch of gear. Thanks!!

  22. Darren Alderson on January 27, 2022 at 2:08 pm

Well said about the headphones tip

  23. Francisco Mendez Sosa on January 27, 2022 at 2:09 pm

Well structured video and organized information makes it really easy to understand. Excellent video! I’m super excited to get started

  24. Pearl Paisley on January 27, 2022 at 2:10 pm

Thank you! I’m in the starting process of building a home studio. I am really happy you brought up the subject of headphones vs speakers as I was almost ready to buy some studio monitors. Phew! I will look in to the headphones you recommended! Thank you for some really good and solid info!

  25. GDT - Y96 on January 27, 2022 at 2:12 pm

this video helped a lot. most ‘how to’ videos or guides for beginners go straight to the software but don’t explain the very basics of gear. Thanks!

  26. Santis LANDRE3S on January 27, 2022 at 2:19 pm

I’m really looking into making EDM music now because I just love the way it sounds! I just had no where to start but this video is really informative and I appreciate it so much!

  27. Victor Kohlbacher on January 27, 2022 at 2:20 pm

Are bose qc 35 as headphones gonna be fine ?

  28. SomberShroud on January 27, 2022 at 2:20 pm

Oh man, I would NEVER recommend M50x’s to anyone, use AKG 361’s instead and use KPH40’s as a reference. This is coming from someone in the audiophile community who has also spent $7000+ on audio gear. KPH40’s could be your last headphone you get If you wanted and I never would’ve said that a year ago. AKG 361’s for reference studio monitoring(just starting out) then Neuman NDH20’s for more intermediate to expert producers who will take advantage of the headphones and KPH40’s for the shear amount of detail and enjoyment equivalent to endgame gear though you could just use them as a reference for end game gear and not need to upgrade your studio monitors.

  30. Steven Mark on January 27, 2022 at 2:23 pm

Hello from Boston. I’ve been saying for years I’m going to produce my own music that’s reminiscent of the ’90s in the early 2000s that everyone seems to prefer that is never played in the clubs around here anymore. Thanks so much for the straightforward video it just popped up on Google search.. very well done step by step thank you brother I appreciate it so much ! Michael D
