Five TV Antennas To Avoid Buying When Cutting the Cord

Five TV Antennas To Avoid Buying When Cutting the Cord

In this video I discuss five indoor and outdoor TV antennas cord cutters should avoid buying. These antennas are known to perform poorly and are unlikely to get your reliable reception of ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and other local over the air channels. Please share this video so others can be saved from the scam that is the “HD digital antenna.”

have the 1st antenna you show, it is 6 years old and still watching it, yes it is cheap made, but hey it is cheap to buy as well, I would buy another just like it tomorrow, great antenna

  2. DominiDiscord on December 31, 2022 at 1:48 am

This explains why my green leaf antenna can’t pick up those lower channels very well. It does work better than my rabbit ears were for those higher channels though

  3. Lindsey Summers on December 31, 2022 at 1:49 am

I bought a Mohu Leaf for over $50.00, believing it was supposed to be top of the line. It’s NEVER picked so much as a single commercial. The $15.00 rabbit ears work far better. An RCA model flat antenna also works reliably well in my son’s room.

The one to avoid gives me 20channels over 80 miles.

  5. Eliot22 on December 31, 2022 at 1:51 am

I purchased an antenna from Channel Master (which happens to be the first antenna in your link to recommended antennas), it’s a big, flat square you put on the wall (that looks exactly like the one you said "avoid any antenna that looks like this.") It performs exactly the same as a junky, cheap little antenna that I tried first. NBC and CBS are unwatchable and only have one bar on my TV’s meter. So I purchased the powered amplifier from Channel Master, and it made absolutely no difference. I have no idea what to do at this point.

Can I have one antenna for all my tvs in the house now I have 5 tvs but I need get 5 antennas. What would you recommend

  8. Michael Durkin on December 31, 2022 at 1:57 am

I bought 1 years ago and the rotator itself the spindle actually broke and it’s stop rotating and before it also struggling to rotate I had to go on the roof to help it rotate but it keeps stopping so I got rid of it and got a stronger rotator they’re rubbish products the door even tell you which direction it’s pointing on the box is well well there an absolute waste of money

  9. ghenulo on December 31, 2022 at 1:58 am

In all fairness, I searched for rabbit ears on Amazon and all I could find was flat antennas and short cylindrical/slightly conical antennas (I got one of the latter, since it actually looked like an antenna (like you’d find on a car or router)). I know that there’s no such thing as an HD antenna, but I also didn’t know where else to buy an antenna (I didn’t notice that Walmart even had antennas until I ordered one from Amazon, but in all fairness, they Walmart ones didn’t seem much better and were more expensive). Though, the only VHF stations in my area that I can’t pick up are PBS, which I can live without (and maybe I could pick them up if they were in the same direction as the channels I can pick up); my local CBS/Fox station is also VHF, but the short antenna will pick it up (I’m not sure if because it’s only 16 miles away or if it’s just that my antenna is pointing in the right direction).

Huh, I have had a lava for 4 years and I live in the middle of nowhere! So your telling me I have junk. The first thing that comes to my mind is you are paid!!!!
Now, to express how far in the sticks I live, I have to drive over 100 miles just to see a McDonalds, or a Walmart.
Now, I should disclose my grandfather was a RCA dealer long before you were a sperm bank! To be honest, I was helping him during the summer put up antennas, rotors, not a frickin rotator, and repairing T.V.’s, C.B.”s even small appliances. Also, I was doing these tasks before you were a sperm bank. I’m sharing this history so you understand I am not the typical u-tube viewer researching a product, but humoring myself at your lack of smarts.
Now, as any antennae, the signal booster, the cable itself, the height it is mounted all plays a very big part. This, also leads me back to you getting paid.
Now, signal / cable length are big factors. I never recommend over 50′ of cable for a lava and yes, the cable costs more than the antenna.
Now, let’s talk function. I get nbc, cbs, and guaranteed 21 channels on a regular basis. I hate Fox! With a twist of the rotor by remote control, I can pick up stations my neighbor can not. They have a dual setup with expensive antennas and a 70 foot tower.
Excuse me for a minute coyotes are howling near the chicken coop.
    Okay all is good.
In all, my Lava antenna has been hailed on, withstood 50mph+ winds, sideways rain, and once hitting the c roof as the wind folded the pipe in half. I’ve registered over 100 channels and for the price I find its a great antenna. Either way you must pay for the cable. So to you researchers, I say experiment. It’s your set up, not some recommended setup.

Greetings: Finally some1 has made a presentation on a subject I have been doubted and argued by so many. Definitely correct facts. About antennas and sellers of such junk. The yuppie# and millennials helped create the foul pond in which they feed and live. Simple economics: Supply and demand. Further, the Chinese have capitalized in many markets Bcuz so many idiots choose 2 purchase such crap. Finally, pride, dignity, respect, greed, lack of appreciation and forethought has diminished in the USA leaving such bait 4 the aforementioned. Repeal the Real ID Act!. Great presentation. Thx 4 the share.

This guy is 1000% correct in his analysis. The false claims by all these companies only make my faith in advertisers completely non-existent. It kills me to see these commercials getting away with fooling people.

  17. im12run2trouble on December 31, 2022 at 2:05 am

Should have worn safety glasses when you smashed that antenna man! Anyway have had one for 2 years + now and doing great. But when it goes i’ll get a regular one like you first showed.

  18. Michael Pierce on December 31, 2022 at 2:05 am

i have same your antenna s 150 miles that antnenna s box red light not work so keep off off happened yesterday morning ….. how ?

  19. Dosha Blake on December 31, 2022 at 2:09 am

Wish I would have seen this before I invested in that antenna with the power rotator. First the rotator quit working, then we could not get a signal. Your review is right on. We replaced it with a Clearstream 4V after watching your video review on it. We now get a great signal. We also added a Tablo. It works great. Your video on Tablo set up was also very helpful

I have a couple of these.. One at the shop and one at home ..
They work fine and pull in a lot of channels..
Mine are inside and never are in the weather.

Good video. The first one you showed still works fine 30 channels come in clear most oof the time remote broke 1st day over all its been a a good antenna live in a remote area…thank you very much

  27. Ronnie Heit on December 31, 2022 at 2:17 am

    I’ve news for him.
I have two RCA 1750 Square black window mounted indoors antennas with amplifies that came with them.
We get 69 total channels thru a 2 into one spliltter mounted backwards.
I have had to get new amps once.
They are aimed roughly at the nearest tv repeater tower.
There’s only 2 channels I cant get, fox and abc.
    There’s channels I didn’t even know existed. 3 channel 2 (2.1,2.2 & 2.3) pbs extras, 3 cbs channel 4 (4.1 4.2 4.3 & 4.4) extras and 2 nbc channel 6 (6.1 & 6.2) extras. Plus several others above channel 17 pbs.

I just purchased one of these for my 88 yr old mom who no longer has cable offered and is unable to learn to use direct or stream. She still uses a flip phone. I can’t find anyone in my area to install a good antenna for her. I’m really upset because that is all she has to do is watch tv.

How unfortunate! I bought the “junk” antenna two weeks BEFORE I first found your Utube channel.

  32. Sandy Seffrood on December 31, 2022 at 2:21 am

Ha!! I bought the one you break at the beginning… it is junk!

  33. Mondavou on December 31, 2022 at 2:22 am

Subscribing despite that troubling clip of you smashing the antenna. Looked like the hammer was a little too much for your weak wrists. 🙂

  34. Mike Bakers on December 31, 2022 at 2:23 am

“Channel master” the one you recommend on Amazon is a flat antenna that you say stay away from? I’m confused🫤— and also I just found out the RCA amplified indoor one that you recommend they say it has 4K which again you say stay away from those, your videos are awfully confusing. Please explain if you can.

  35. Guy FawkesU on December 31, 2022 at 2:23 am

He states do not buy any antenna that looks like the flat kind but he says the Channel Master version is good?????????

  36. Catherine McDohl on December 31, 2022 at 2:24 am

Or an home made grow room can amplify signals I rarely have to move mine a room of foil is nice lol

  37. Selected First M.C. on December 31, 2022 at 2:27 am

ion why this guy is saying do not buy the rotating antenna.I have had mine for 3 yrs now.its amazing.after 2 days I had my cable cut off.huge savings.real talk.

  38. Vim Vitae on December 31, 2022 at 2:29 am

have you tested this one? Amazon B0BFQRMQPC update: nevermind, that one looks a lot like the "Amplified Digital TV Antenna Long 420 + Miles" you tested that was complete garbage. It’s sad that Amazon allows these outlandish claims by Atennas and Flashlights lol.. clearly false advertisement that goes unchecked by Amazon.

  39. Michael Saville on December 31, 2022 at 2:31 am

Are u sure about ping ping ding?

  41. Y D on December 31, 2022 at 2:31 am

Nonsence. I have this antenna for 4 years. It did not fell apart. Rotator still works and it show real HD on public channels. Not many channels, but it works fine for price of $25 Nice clear picture. I watch olimpics on channel 11 in HD on it. No problem.

  42. Osirus Osirus on December 31, 2022 at 2:33 am

I like this guy, he doesn’t fck around .

  43. Lucky Joestar on December 31, 2022 at 2:34 am

I remember my paternal grandparents had an antenna rotator back in the 1970s. They’d turn a knob on a set-top controller, which then made a “brom-brom-brom” sound as the antenna was being rotated.

  44. g z on December 31, 2022 at 2:37 am

I have the antennae with the built in rotator and it has worked flawlessly for many years now. The motor still works and it has been through all types of weather. That being said it is sold by many different distributors so maybe its just that I got one of the good ones.

  45. Sara on December 31, 2022 at 2:38 am

Clear TV is also a scam. There is no such thing as a 4K antenna!

  46. truth seeker on December 31, 2022 at 2:38 am

we are using the antenna you say is junk, been working good for over 3 yrs, we live 75 to 100 miles from cities with tv stations. I’ve even helped other people hook up to them and they love them because they get more channels now…

  47. Kevin's Rides on December 31, 2022 at 2:40 am

I have the first antenna you showed. It works just fine, I’m not a klutz/idiot so I didn’t throw/err drop it on the ground. It picks up ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS channels just fine. I have about 18 channels to choose from that come in perfectly fine without having to turn the antenna. I think the $50 was money well spent for a roof mounted antenna that didn’t need a 50 ft tower to install and cost over $500.

  48. Noname 1st on December 31, 2022 at 2:41 am

Can’t get HD channels for some weird Reason, I am baffled, I am in the UK so I wasn’t sure if this antenna on the roof is so old it’s obsolete,or not capable of picking it up,any ideas my friend? Thanks in advance

  49. Nathan Hale on December 31, 2022 at 2:42 am

I had an omnidirectional antenna from radio shack back in the 90s and it was terrible. Didn’t get any better reception than our old one. I have one of the flat sheet ones and it works pretty well but got a similar one with an in line amp from a company called Gator and it stinks.
I don’t have a pole for an outdoor one anymore so I am looking for a decent indoor model
