GE Dishwasher GSD2100 maintenance, clean and fix drain issues

I remove some of the bottom components on my GE dishwasher to show how to do some basic maintenance. This is useful to see if there is anything blocking any ports on your dishwasher, to check how clean the filter is, and to access parts to clean them (some can get pretty grimy over time!).

Need help…all parts to clean filter, restarted dishwasher and apparently water basin assembly wasn’t lined up and reinstalled incorrectly. How do I get these pieces to line up correctly again. Specifically the filter assembly the little rubber piece and bolt

So I followed your instructions and was able to clean the filter etc but after putting it back together there is a loud banging sound lithe the arm is hitting something. I checked and it was not touching the rack. The arm was spinning when manually spun with no sound and even if I remove the bottom rack the sound is still there when I run the machine.

    Best video, hands down. 👍

  9. Danielle Nelson on June 3, 2022 at 10:20 pm

How important is that tab? The spray arm came off fine, the filter(?) did not. I moved the tab back and forth and it broke lol any tips on repair or if it’ll make a big difference is appreciated!

Thank you so much! I never had a dishwasher until I moved into this apartment and had no idea how to start cleaning it. You’ve made my life so much easier 😊

Thank You Thank You Thank You! Renter here, with a less than enthusiastic building maintenance. After seeing just how nasty the garbage disposal’s rubber guard was, and pulling out a wig full of hair from the bathroom sink drain (the apartment looked clean on the surface) – I just knew the dishwasher hadn’t been maintained. I just couldn’t figure out how to remove the center and back pieces. Your video came to my rescue. It was so so bad – just coated with black gunk. Thank you again!

  18. Jonathan Bock on June 3, 2022 at 10:27 pm

I have the same thing. It smells like sulfur and where is the filter to clean it off?

  19. Young C on June 3, 2022 at 10:27 pm

I just bought an apartment, and the drain to the dishwasher does not drain. I’ve watched many videos such as this, even took the dishwasher out to check and clear the drain, but it was clear. At this point I thought it was because the old washer’s drain pump isn’t working, so I bought a brand new washer but still wouldn’t drain. Today I found out that’s because the drain pipe is connected to the food disposal, and there is a knockout you need to take out or else the drain is blocked. So if you have the same problem, hope this comment helps you.

  24. Dustin on June 3, 2022 at 10:32 pm

My stupid apartment won’t upgrade this dishwasher and I have to refer to this video every 6 months when I need to clean it out again.

  25. Ariel Morrison on June 3, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Thank you so much. The maintenance men at my apartment looked at me like I was stupid when I told them the dishwasher wouldn’t drain and was clogged. They literally spent 5 minutes in my apartment, started my dishwasher, and said "see? It turns on. Nothing is wrong with it." They didn’t even stay to see if it was actually draining (it wasn’t) and didn’t come back the second, third, and fourth time I called.

So, thank you for this. Turns out I’m not the stupid one here.

Thank you so so much for this video! I also had trouble at first getting the spinny thing out. My trick was using the back of a small spoon, stick it between the tab between two holes, and push gently backwards! Didnt break the tab.

Thank you thank you thank you many moons later!

  35. Joni Fitzgerald on June 3, 2022 at 10:45 pm

What happens if the plastic tab gets broken?

This video from Repair clinic shows the tab that holds the spray arm and filter screen very clearly. They use a needle nose pliers to pull the tab https://youtu.be/VwIAeTBS8WQ

  39. A O on June 3, 2022 at 10:47 pm

Didn’t fix the draining problem, but you did guide me safely through disassembly to find two toothpicks wedged in the filter underneath the drain cover, and for that I say thank you! 🙂

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This video NAILED IT for me! A BALL is what we found in the bottom drain under the last part we took off! I wish I could attach a picture! 🙏❤️🙏❤️

Thank you for this video, and the detailed way you showed how to take the arm off. I’ve had this machine for several years and hadn’t been able to figure it out.

The problem I am having is the front screw after I took the sprayer off. It’s not a regular bolt that I can unscrew. Im a woman living alone and I need specifics about what kind of screwdriver I need. I need a visual and to slow down the tutorial. Thank you if anyone can help me. FYI my dishwasher stinks. I just bought my house. I really can use help
