Hidden Radios in Home Devices (IOT)! The next Cyberthreat

Hidden Radios in Home Devices (IOT)! The next Cyberthreat

Did you know that your IOT devices are secretly communicating with each other? This includes IOT devices that are not in your home. Did you know that what your IOT devices do may be transmitted to third parties? Did you know that your TV may also have the capability and may currently be transmitting your activity far and wide?

There are secret communications occurring between IOT devices using protocols like Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, Thread, 802.15, and LoRa that you likely didn’t expect or was not explained when you bought these devices.

Just like Amazon Echo has been conscripted to work with the Amazon Sidewalk Mesh network, other networks are in operation and some are completely unknown. Learn about these in this video.

Can you jam these devices? This is answered at the end of the video.

Here are Transceiver Development Kits that techie people can use to play with radio frequencies and see what is actually going on.

I’m glad to have finally discover your channel. I am actually going through a very scary time in my life where I am being followed everywhere and everything I do online or even “offline” is being influenced. I believe whoever they are has gotten my wife first and has her so afraid that she won’t even talk to me when I know something is wrong. I don’t know what to do. Living in fear is the last thing I thought I would be doing. If there is any advice or help I need it desperately!!!!

"They don’t tell you!" Looks at FCC filing… Nothing really sketchy going on here. In fact, I support the Helium network by adding nodes (LoRA), which any communications then goes over the internet. I’d love to see what device you’re talking about that is a consumer IOT device that ‘goes long distance’ without the internet and no antenna to make note of, no higher power (>500mW) transmitters, and not filed with the FCC. I’m also an amateur extra, and field day isn’t just about phone, we also use and get points for digital modes and CW. You’re just creating paranoia. If you want to educate your followers more, I’d consider expanding more on the spectrum analyzer and locating the source, an SDR (RTL or the like), and using the acquired information to google what you’re finding. Any device a regular consumer is buying on the open market and has a radio of any sort will have an FCC filing. Nothing found on the open market is going to have ‘secret transmitters’. Stop the paranoia click-bait, please.

Hi. I want to use the radio waves, radio signals or mesh coverage signal, to convert them into a 10watts generator using multiple rectennas for higher current income, similar to Tesla atmospperic electricity rated at 100v per feet from the ground in the air. Every feet goes 100v 200v 300v 400v 500v….as you send the wire up vertically. Horizontally, the current increases. Can you please help with the best band to receive continuos signal, i need a lot of noises to get that electric power at a usable amount. I know many have tried, but I will do it. Not just to power a single red LED light. But more power, to charge a lithium battery with 5-10watts per hour. There must be a possible way using paralleled rectennas with blocking diodes. Sticking them like a garden fence posts, but in the form of tiny wires 0.30mm thick. You are the only one person, where I can get the right advice at this moment. You really have the best knowledge about radio signals.
I ve spent a while in understanding Tesla atmospheric electricity, but that’s still not enough for my project.

  25. Sincerely Yours on September 22, 2021 at 11:50 pm

OK, I agree the danger is there, though I have to believe it was not originally intended to be nefarious. Avaricious maybe, but not nefarious. However, once the networks are in place they could conceivably be used by others who very well could be nefarious. I suspect most of this tech was originally meant to allow industry to hit us with more targeted advertising so we are enticed to buy more and more of their products as time goes on. It would therefore be useful for us to learn mitigation techniques so we can thwart the efforts of big industry to data mine our information without our consent and thus limit their ability to saturate us with more of their unwanted advertising. This should in turn limit the spread of the invisible networks talked about here thus making it more difficult for the bad guys to use this technology for their own purposes. It’s time to start a hacker/maker community dedicated to the peaceful non-violent thwarting of this technology. The above video is a good start.

    Another helpful vid, cheers.
Can I just say "A Scanner Darkly" a great film with Mr Keanu Reeves, a scene where hes walking down road on phone chatting to his girlfriend, the government listening in, and watching him walk following him on CCTV cameras, jumping from camera to camera to keep track of him……still want Ring doorbell anyone?

  27. WomBatVIC on September 22, 2021 at 11:53 pm

Thanks Rob. I was aware of small pieces of this info but thank you for bringing it together and describing it more fully .
I’ve had my cameras taped and I’ve been concerned about microphones for years. Part of the reason I left a good job was that I was being forced to engage in video calls. I left before I had to! As is true for many employees, I had no access to control any drivers etc (even if I thought it was full control, which it’s not).
All this unwanted connectivity is all very scarey and @%₩# annoying. Unfortunately I feel there is too little we can do about it except have as little technology around as possible but even then do we really have our privacy? … Yes, I have the choice to delete phones and computers from my life and considering that they are consuming so much of my time maintaining them and not giving me the promised decent returns in productivity and creativity I might soon do that. Unfortunately the good and interesting access to so much great information and the ability re-establish and maintain links with lost friends and relatives etc is a fairly strong plus. The ol double edged sword…

You ain’t lying. My neighbor was spying on me. Somehow he and his friends used Bluetooth to connect to an electric magnetic field that you pick up my thought frequency. I kept get hidden mic radiation warnings on the my phone. This went on for months. Over 20 Bluetooth devices in one area listening in. Can you tell me how this was done? I didn’t know there was tech that could pick up thoughts. It was terrible trying to watch every thought while people judged me … I’d like to protect myself from this ever happening again.

If it’s happening anyway, why not use bitcoin Lightning Network as each node, so that a cost can be associated with each bit of transferred information on the mesh network.

Helium is a blockchain project working on IOT networks. There are some problems they were able to solve, but as of now they still haven’t designed it as a mesh network.

Hello there Rob Braxman. I am so glad that I stumbled upon your channel. Now I don’t feel quite as much like a "Unicorn," as I’m used to feeling. Most of my friends and acquaintances look at me in all sorts of funny ways. While I no longer share my knowledge and beliefs with anyone, any longer. Those paying attention can see that #1.) I do not use a "Smart Phone," but instead use an older "Flip Phone." Not "Safe" but at least "Safer." I can remove the battery, etc. AND #2.) I drive a 35 year old Pontiac, which does not contain any of the "Newer Technology" that more current vehicles, of all kinds, do.

While I do not have the sophisticated knowledge that you demonstrate, I have worked with, in and on many New Technologies and have been on the cusp of many of these budding technologies for most of my life, (since 1985), and I have basically been scared out of my wits since about 1986, knowing what became possible, in rapid succession and expanding in an almost exponential way and on a daily basis too.

I’m sorry for writing a book here. I am so glad to meet you and know of your existence. I’ll be back. Keep Smiling…
