Measuring Trolling Speed vs Fishing Lure Speed with the Fish Hawk X2 Trolling System

Measuring Trolling Speed vs Fishing Lure Speed with the Fish Hawk X2 Trolling System

Believe it or not, there can be a big difference between your GPS trolling speed and actual lure speed due to currents, heading, and during turns while trolling. I this video I’ll show you how I use the Fishhawk X2 to monitor my lure speed while trolling for walleye on Lake Erie. I’m using the Fishhawk Electronics X2 on Lake Erie while trolling for walleye. It works best for anglers that want a portable system and fish for multiple species with or without a downrigger. You also do not have to mount a transducer to your boat. No drilling! All the fish hawks work great for Walleye, Salmon and other fish species when trolling.

Newbie here. Just recently purchased my Erie boat and have been trolling once a wk. I was really curious to how these were deployed and what components came with the fish hawk. As a newbie, even I can tell that this device could be the difference in a 1 hour limit of eyes or 5 hour limit lol. Nice video and thanks for all the information and content you put out. Hope to see ya one day on the water. Big fan 👍 Starcraft 196 Fishmaster black and gray from Vics 👍

How does this factor with the precision trolling information? Does this throw that data out of the window or can it be used along with it?

BIG TIP: The line/cable between the weight and transducer should be lower pound test than the line/cable between the transducer and the rod/reel. If you snag bottom with the weight you want the weight to break off NOT the $400 transducer. On the Great Lakes this set up is run off of down-riggers.

I’ve been watching some of your older content. I have FishHawk 4xd that I rarely use because I don’t want to fish a downrigger for walleye. I cannot believe it never occurred to me to just drop it down on a kite rod with a small weight. Thanks for pointing out the obvious!

You sold another one here with me got the full x2 setup with the pole and their new double snap and 2lb weight. Will that weight show up on my graph or do I need to calculate how much to let out for each depth? I’m guessing it will show up lol
