Moto Z – from Motorola – is the THINNEST premium smartphone currently on the market. (2016) This video shows how I personally opened up the Moto Z. You can use this video as a reference for if you decide to repair your own phone. Remember, attempt all phone repairs at your own risk. I show how the screen comes off of the body, and how the battery can be swapped.
The charging port is unfortunately not replaceable. It is stuck onto the main board permanently.
Find the Moto Z durability test HERE: https://youtu.be/kZOfYo4JDIw
LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANY PARTS!! I will look for them, and link them here.
Since the phone was recently released, parts are hard to find. So make sure you have a screen protector and case: http://amzn.to/2cgL0y1

When screen replacements were easy..
Is it possible change the block pin mod on the back?
I dropped my moto z play in a shallow pool how can I tell if I can repair it
Jerry what’s the difference between Moto Z and Moto Z droid
Please display light solution
What temperature to remove screen ?
"Pretty much nothing here that the common consumer could replace easily." Goes for the whole phone
The adhesive on my phone is toast. The glass is lifting off so I can probably just lift it off, it’s had a crack in the corner for about a year. Perfect time for a new battery too. Thank you ♥
Can you do the Moto z3? I assume it’s similar to this one, but has probably changed at least some
manda um celular top desses aí pra mim.
kkk
Hi, very good video. I have one of these phones and need to replace the battery. This and other videos are going to help me do that.
That being said, please be aware that the "decorative metal piece" is NOT DECORATIVE. Do NOT damage that piece! I am an electrical engineer who has worked in mobile phone development. That piece is for GROUND. It is important that this have a good connection to ground or the mods attached to the phone may not work reliably. This is especially true if you are using a battery mod. As an added bonus, this ground plate offers ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection. To everyone disassembling this phone, please be careful with this part.
Another side note: you called the copper tape over the processor/etc. on the motherboard a "protective piece." This is true, but it should be noted that it not only acts as a heat spreader for the chips, but it also provides electromagnetic shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Regardless, thanks for the video! It is very helpful to see someone disassemble the phone, especially when it comes to the heating of the glue, which is almost an art it seems.
Thank you!!!
Where can I get a battery please?
Learned where to bend my phone gently to reconnect the battery! thanks for putting this out there
Is it possible to separate the glass from the digitiser. Or do you have a video showing that process?
I broke my screen trying to fix the back thanks😤

Is it possible to replace whole inner electronics, without, replacing the Frame of phone? And which way is to replace Frame ? Thanks !
I have a Moto phone but I don’t know what kind mine looks sorta simaler but the screen is falling off how can I fix that
What about the speaker?
How we disassemble charging port?
Sir how much money it would be payable for replacement of screen of MOTO Z2 force
I connected the screen but it still won’t turn onn
Yeah he should have turned it on after he reassembled it to show us that it actually works.
Think this video is partially…can’t say fake but not exactlly true..
First of all a pretty thick metal pry tool is much more "dangerous" when dealing with a this display like that..then a 100% plastic playing card whitch is far slimmer and thus far safer to use..
Second, the adhesive on the top and bottom side of the phone is much more "resilient" then shown on video.. takes repeated tries to remove it, doesn’t come off after a single swop with that pry tool..
And third in order to move safelly you have to reheat every portion of the screen to take it off (just like he said but only heat it once!)
My guess is that the display was already removed and most of the adhesive taken off prior to making the video, so he had a much easier task then doing it with a phone that hadn’t been worked on before..
Anyway his technique is good , but procedure is a bit harder then shown on video..
Cheers!
Has anyone changed just the battery and kept the screen intact? Love this phone but I raped it over this last year when I switched from Gapple to Droid and the battery is tired. Just wondering if I should just get the screen with the battery. Or, just spend the $380 CDN and buy a new one. $380/year isn’t bad. Plus I am too busy fixing crappy iPhones for people.
Something no tutorial for replacing Moto Z batteries has mentioned, which I ran into while taking the glass off is that there are these two little springy thingies on the upper right-hand corner. I managed to bend mine out of place when I was prying the glass off. You can see them at 3:00. Hopefully I haven’t ruined them.
Love my Moto z 👍😉
What happen if heat gun discolored the Screen, does it heals back? if yes, how long to it take before the burn mark goes off?
i have problema on front proximity sensor, sometimes i need press on it to work. Call black screen
Hi, The Moto MOD Connector is replaceble o fix? I have problem with this.
I’m watching this with a moto Z that has a broken back glass panel and it’s broken enough to see the mother board
I need a new screen for my Moto z play where do you suggest me to get it? It completely broke the screen is completely black now.
It’s nearly impossible to repair this phone. The parts supposed to slide or pop of etc are so stuck after 2 years that you nearly have to breake them
I recently got the Moto z3 and I find this video interesting.
I’m studying this video religiously right now. I may have to do this. I took my phone to get the screen repaired [twice…] and the second time, after I got it back, the battery started failing randomly. Like, I’ll charge my phone, it’ll say 100%, but dies if it doesn’t stay plugged in. I even have an Offgrid Power Pack for the Moto Z, and at first it helped, but now, even when the power pack AND phone is charged 100%, it just dies. It HAS to be plugged in to stay on. I don’t know how to tell if there’s a software connection issue with the battery, of it’s the battery itself. If any knowledgable person out there has any tips for me, I am forever grateful to you.
Does anyone know if i can put a higher mah battery than the one that it alrready has?
The one that i own is dying too fast
Actually. Where exactly IC for the battery is ?
Is there any way to have someone change/replace the charging port? Mine is worn down and I definitely need a new one. Will phone repair services be able to do it?
Where is the vibrator motor? Must be tiny? I am performing a durability/longevity test of the motor on a Moto Z2 Force. I’ll see how long it lasts with continuous use.
Edit: 2:56 I see where it should be. Must have skipped the step of removing it. It is in the upper left corner of the phone.
I’m the moron who disassembled my phone before watching the video, so I’m pretty sure I either broke or threw away the little bracket for the LCD ribbon cable. I’m hoping that’s there more or less to prevent the cable from slipping out, and that it isn’t necessary for the phone to function properly. If it’s only there to hold it in place I can find a way around it
Fuck whoever decided to make this phone with fucking glue
The microphone on mine is very bad and it very faintly picks up sound. Is there a way I could clean it without doing this? Or would I have to do this to clean it. Or would I just have to replace it and if so would that be hard?
Please show me the chip wifi on the mainboard Moto Z. tks
Thanks jerry
"Wait What!" You have to remove back glass panels to access the 6 -T4 screws that hold the screen in place which was not mentioned in this video.
Ty!
My screen is cracked bad and i got it wet, trying to dry it out with rice,..it comes on then shuts off..is it worth getting fixed?.
