My First Cell Phone (1990) NEC P-300 | Retro Portable Phone

I got my first cell phone for Christmas in 1990. It was an NEC P-300 portable phone, which was very high-tech in the early 90’s. I recently rediscovered it in my parents’ basement. Check it out!!

  6. The Trips on August 7, 2022 at 1:27 am

You should take that phone into a t-mobile store and tell them you’d like to get a new plan for it! haha. I was really hoping Abby was going to say she carried the phone in her back pocket, and would have pizzas delivered to her in class…she was the original zack morris!

  7. Justin Sanders on August 7, 2022 at 1:30 am

Wow Zack Morris eat your heart out. Very cool. ๐Ÿ‘

  10. Piyali Sengupta on August 7, 2022 at 1:36 am

I got my first cell phone in 2001. I was in college. Can you believe it? I had no cell phone before that. I used to make phone calls from phone booths if I was outside.ย
Your cell phone impressed Keith so much when you were dating? You should treasure this phone forever ๐Ÿ™‚ God bless you two.

  12. Laughters good 4 the Soul on August 7, 2022 at 1:39 am

If you’re able to charge it you should try and see if it still works. Probably whatever company it was with is no longer available though right?

  13. The Laughing Lion on August 7, 2022 at 1:41 am

Since you couldn’t use that phone to make calls and it’s so heavy, It still makes a really good emergency tool as a weapon. Just throw it at your attacker in In cases of emergency. ๐Ÿ˜น

  14. Krista Starr on August 7, 2022 at 1:42 am

I remember pagers being huge in the early 90s and I wanted one as a kid. Even though I was definitely too young to understand what it was used for back then.

  15. LIFE OF A MIL-WIFE on August 7, 2022 at 1:46 am

  17. Joe Paulsey on August 7, 2022 at 1:47 am

  18. Vin Outhavong on August 7, 2022 at 1:50 am

I thought about buying cellular phone back in 1995 but had a pager instead which my Unit in the Marines gave me for recall purposes. Didnโ€™t get my first cell phone till 1999 which was with Verizon.

  19. chaserobertson on August 7, 2022 at 1:51 am

  20. Candy's Garden on August 7, 2022 at 1:52 am

I remember my dad having one of these phones way back when๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š i never got a cell phone until i could pay for one myself, which was after i graduated high school in 2002… I did find a rotary phone at a flea market for $10 a yr or two ago & it actually works!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

  21. Melanie on August 7, 2022 at 1:53 am

My first phone was that Motorola flip phone… it was 80 bucks and you got 20 minutes a month to talk… like 45$ a month. Airtouch Cellular was my first service provider. I actually love those big phones and would use one (if they would work) but I cant live without all of my apps!!

  24. superbellabeau on August 7, 2022 at 1:54 am

That’s nearly the same as my first mobile phone! We called it a brick! Lol I’ve still got it! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค

  25. Sharon M.T. on August 7, 2022 at 1:54 am

Yeah, 1990! That was early and super cool! My first cell phone was 1999 and it cost me 50 cents a minute so it was even pretty expensive at that time. I thiiink mine was an NEC too. Maybe Motorola. Not sure!

  26. Ghaushah Infinity on August 7, 2022 at 1:55 am

Wow the only person I knew that had a cell phone in 1990 was Zack Morris from Saved by the bell. I didn’t get one til 2000. My mom got one in 1996 and it was similar to yours, she would only use it for emergencies

  32. Nikhil Patil on August 7, 2022 at 2:01 am

    Cool phone๐Ÿ˜..!!What was it’s price?

  33. Zachary Broome on August 7, 2022 at 2:04 am

Life was a lot more simple back then, hate to say it but everyone was better off back then.

  34. BenFranklin on August 7, 2022 at 2:05 am

Growing up, my Dad always had a car phone and cellphone. I remember being at a flea market and his phone rang, because he had the business phones transferred to it. Two old women were walking and I heard one as, "Who brings a mobile phone to the flea market?" My friend and I laughed at that.

I had a pager from probably 1994-1998, but then I had no real use for it.

I didn’t get my first actual cellphone until 2001, when my parents told me that I needed one, so they put it on their phone plan. When the first bill for it came, my Dad asked me if I knew how many minutes I’d used on it. I was like, "I don’t know. I don’t think I used it." He goes, "You used 5 minutes. What’s the point in having a phone if you’re not going to use it?" I had to think and I said, "Mom called me on it one day. There’s your 5 minutes." It was a Motorola flip phone though. I had it until it finally gave out in 2011, after surviving the hinges both being repaired, several trips through the washer and dryer, and three days laying in a puddle during a non-stop thunderstorm.

My first phone was an NEC p100 and I did have the big antenna on it. I got it in 1993 and it cost me ยฃ25 per month and 25pence per minute for calls and it didn’t matter if you were on for one second or one minute, go over the minute buy one second and it was another minute.

  42. Uncle Dan_58 on August 7, 2022 at 2:09 am

  50. gian marco cacciola on August 7, 2022 at 2:17 am

The Nec P300 was also my first father’s mobile phone. He bought it in 1991 for over 2 million Italian lire (it’s about 1700 dollars).
