My Hi Fi System

Having acquired some new speakers recently I thought the time was right to show you the system that I have built up over more than 40 years! I love it and I hope you enjoy seeing it too?

Amplification, Power Supplies – Naim Audio
Turntable – Linn LP12 with a Naim Aro Tonearm and Lyra Etna SL cartridge.
Speakers – Kudos Titan 808’s

This is a great Linn/Naim system & must be expensive. Have you ever considered or tried deviating from this path for example by trying a valve phono or preamp? I say this because I used solid state for many years but am now using a valve phono & enjoying the delicacy & purity this can bring to an analogue based system.

    Fabulous system.
You should really demo a supercap dr for the superline, much much better than a hicap.
Which wall mount do you use for the LP12?

    👌👍 Lepo..
    Pozdrav iz Srbije..!

Lovely system Andrew, congratulations. Out of interest, what size is your listening room as I find the Kudos 808 an intriguing design. I used to own WB speakers myself (Discovery then C60) and probably live quite close to you on the West Mids/Worcs border. No idea how we could contact each other though as it would be great to hear your system sometime. Kind regards, Rob

Lovely system. The speakers are truly a stand out. I’d be thanking my dad for those @£20,000+ that’s a nice gift 🙂 and elevates the system to the finest level!

As a NAIM system user myself, it was a great insight to your system… so much so, I’m going to get a demo of the Kudos Titan 808… I’m now wondering how they compare to the Sonus Faber Olympica 3. 👍🏼

Fantastic system Andrew, do you know the make and model of your turntable wall mount?

  15. Abhijit Pani on July 23, 2022 at 12:50 am

Andrew, you probably do not realise, the superline was made for supercap. I have used superline with hicap and supercap. The supercap makes it sound 4 times better. It is the only quintessential missing link.

  16. Clot McShot on July 23, 2022 at 12:51 am

You might want to experiment with grounding solutions. It made a huge difference in my system.

I’ve been appreciating a bit of jazz lately particularly Larry Carlton , the albums are well produced.

Brilliant video – thanks for showing your system. Very humble and enjoyable presentation and of course a beautiful collection of boxes. I have an LP12 and Radikal and expecting a set of Harbeth 30.2s next week. Then I will start the move to Naim electronics. This video was very helpful! Thanks, Billy

ever think about moving the speakers apart a little and farther from the wall?

  20. crimson777king on July 23, 2022 at 12:55 am

A pleasure watching your hi-fi tour and would I love to hear Dark side of the moon on it. Followed by Trick of the Tail of course!

A delightful system, thanks for taking the time to show us.

  22. Aimee Aztec on July 23, 2022 at 12:57 am

Love the system and very encouraging to know that having the latest everything does not necessarily mean the best sound – like your excellent old Linn player! Really cool set up – love naim too!

    BEUTIFULL!

I have modest older Pioneer components. I can see by your expressions that your system truly pleases you. You and I both know that when you get to that point, there is a loss for words to describe it. It is something that has to be experienced to be believed. I knew this when you held up the Dark Side of the Moon album.

Most of the current "streamer" generation doesn’t seem to understand just how much they are missing. They seem to think that what they are listening to, and what they’re listening on, is the way music is supposed to sound. Maybe some day they’ll get it like I did back in the day when I found out that I actually liked the swing and big band music my parents liked. Not to mention jazz from the 50s and 60s.

Oh, by the way, I’m wondering if you have any Jade Warrior albums. I discovered "Last Autumn’s Dream" back in the 70s and now have most of their albums. Most people here in the US haven’t heard of them. Just a recommendation.

My system is getting on in years now and needs replacing but sadly naim equipment is so expensive and beyond my budget but in my opinion linn sondek and naim are just made for each other. So jealous of you. Lovely system.

Hi Andrew, A copy of your response landed in my mailbox but on replying to your mail my response to you bounced. So I am not sure how to respond to you privately and do not wish my private details to be viewable in the public domain. I do live nearby and would approach from the Kidderminster direction. I am currently away but could contact you through this medium on my return. Perhaps we could rendezvous at a mutually agreeable place and time somewhere close to where you live, perhaps a pub car park?Regards Rob

Very nice system there ! I’m pretty much a valve/tube person myself but can readily appreciate good quality regardless. Thanks for showing it to us.

  39. Kastor Lieberung on July 23, 2022 at 1:13 am

A very nice system, Congratulations! The quintessential Naim setup with the Linn LP12, and very stylish frame as well, fits the speakers perfectly. I used to own a Naim XS (and CD5X, with Dali Ikon5), it was a fantastic combo, especially for rock. Your setup is way above, but I can guess what it sounds like.. I moved on to other brands since I like to try different things, but Naim is up there at the top in my book, if I disregard the insanely high end stuff. You are correct abot SEAS being a Norwegian speaker driver company. They make good drivers. Also used by ATC, another English speaker manufacturer famous for their professional active monitors. I now own a more simplistic setup, an Accuphase e370, with integrated DAC and phono stage, a PE 2525 record player, and no cd player since I stream the digital music. And Klipsch Heresy IV speakers. I also have a Garrard 401 collecting dust at my father in law, a restoration project for after the kids move out I guess.. I like to discover music in several genres but mostly play rock, jazz fusion, prog rock, old and modern. Thanks for the video. Cheers.

Very specialized system! Intriguing. Well done!

  44. Scott Chegg on July 23, 2022 at 1:21 am

Oh dear. Can’t believe people still buy Naim. Try a well tempered Amadeus 254, major upgrade on lp12. Get some tubes!!

Hi Andrew, first of all many compliments for your system and also for your record recommentations, i have apreciated a lot! Your hifi system is awesome, but what shines through this video is your great passion over the years. Many compliments again and great job!

If you are using standard Naim Main’s cables, could I suggest you try the Titan STYX cables, especially on the Naim Power supplies, they do make a difference. My system Pink Triangle PT1/Rega RB300 (Audio Origami upgraded) Rega Elys cartridge, Naim 200/202/Stageline, MARCH DAC * Roon NUC, Kudos KS1, and Kudos X3 speakers. The turntable was purchased used in 1985 at a bargain price when I was a teenager! I had Wharfedale Diamond speakers and an original Mission Cyrus 1 amplifier. 35 years to go through my upgrade process, what next? A new cartridge maybe? My first Naim was a Nait 5i, soon replaced by a Nait 5, so I could use a stageline 😉

The whole journey has been fun! I did have a pair of Kudos 707’s, sent in error, when I set them up I had complaints from the neighbours, across the road, but I haven’t had any issues with the X3’s, the 88’s and 808’s are the best speakers I have ever heard at my local dealer.
