In Elon Musk’s master plan for Tesla it includes a list of the company’s main goals, which in part one was to create a low volume, expensive car, then use that money to create a medium volume car at a lower price, then use that money to create a more affordable, high volume car. He then went on to say their goal has always been to make a truly affordable electric vehicle and said they could probably make a fully autonomous $25,000 Tesla about 3 years from now which at the time would be referring to September 2023. This was confirmed just last month when there was an official government report from the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory that showed Tesla is indeed planning to add a new cheaper model that will be designed and produced at the Shanghai facility as soon as 2022. Jumping into the potential timeline of the new Tesla Model 2, last week Tesla China’s president, Tom Zhu, confirmed in an interview with a Chinese media outlet that the upcoming $25,000 Tesla car will be designed with China in mind but sold globally. Obviously there is no confirmed timeline, but based on what we’ve heard from the official Tesla China division we do know they are for sure developing a new compact hatchback model that will cost around $25,000 US and will most likely be slightly smaller than the Model 3. If and when the new Tesla Model does make it to the US it can possibly have an even cheaper price tag of around $19,000 for some customers if the new EV tax credit bill gets passed. If we assume some year over year growth on Tesla’s US sales let’s be conservative and guesstimate that if the Green Act does get approved then Tesla may very well have the $7,000 tax credit for an entire calendar year to cover 400,000 vehicles sold in the US. Here’s where our optimistic hat comes into play: If the bill does get passed later this year and if the Tesla Model 2 timeline somehow matches the rumor and is ahead of schedule, then it could be possible to buy the upcoming $25,000 Tesla Model 2 in the US and get a $7,000 tax credit to bring the cost down to $19,200 after factoring in Tesla’s required documentation and delivery fee which is currently $1200. If it does happen that means you could get a new Tesla for under $20,000 and it would be a huge success and giant smack down to gasoline vehicles, especially when it’s competing with other similar compact hatchbacks like the Toyota Corolla hatchback which are around that same price range. Even if the $7,000 tax credit doesn’t get passed or it’s gone but the time the Model 2 comes to the US, the Model 2 will still fill a big gap in the compact hatchback market where the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit have been discontinued. You’ll of course need to pay more for the extras like full self driving or another paint color, but at the end of the day the base Model 2 is still a Tesla at its core and will still have the unmatched drive train, battery efficiency, and the high safety standards that Tesla prioritizes in all their vehicles.

About 20k too much for that ugly trash. Evs are 2% of the American market. Don’t care about the planet and autopilot will only be level 2 so basically a glorified cruise control in the smart states

Where is electricity coming from to charge millions more EVs when already brown outs in California. Nuclear? Building more dams? How will billions of batteries be recycled and what is environmental consequence?

Tesla does not do anything on schedule. 19K?? I’m not holding my breath. I don’t like the Tesla sales and Service model, but IF a car can be had for 19K, then that would be hard to pass up, and a strong consideration would have to be contemplated….

We drove my son’s Model 3 2 days ago and thouroughly enjoyed it. Although it was a lot bigger than my wife and I needed, since there’s just the 2 of us, we are looking at the Model 2 when it comes to the USA market. My son drove his Model 3 to the DFW area from the Denver area and only stopped 3 times to charge. And he found three perfect spots where they could go in and eat a nice meal while it charge. Said it only added an hour to their normal drive in his ICE Audi. My wife drive a Toyota 4 Runner and loves the SUV rear lift/hatch back door. So the Model 2 will work perfect for us if it has one.

What Tesla is good for is going to the grocery store. Maybe consider getting a nice Harley with leather saddlebags instead.

  27. luckyluc25 on January 3, 2022 at 1:21 pm

Gas isn’t going anywhere soon. First, where do you send it for repairs? I live near Albany NY and the closest Telsa repair shop is in NY City. And our grid can barely handle the air conditioners in the summer here. And most who live in Downtown Albany live in high rise buildings and tend to have to park a block to blocks away. NY City has 1000’s of times more people that live in much higher buildings. How will they charge it? they can’t. Is Musk gonna put charging stations on every block? I’m not paying for that. And It’s gonna a decade, or more, before the mechanics catch up even a little bit. Is Musk going to pay for them to go back to school. I ain’t paying for that either. That’s on them. It’s their product. Right?

My $11,000 gas engine car gets 350mile range on one tank of gas. Takes about 2mins to fill up at the pump and has very common parts for easy parts replacements

  29. Paige Chamberlain on January 3, 2022 at 1:22 pm

it’s not game over for gas… let’s also be reminded that tesla makes the majority of their profits by selling cap and trade credits to the big 3. that means the prices are HEAVILY subsidized by, and thus fully dependent on, the internal combustion engine. we need to start thinking full circle and be realistic here…

  30. Jay Bax on January 3, 2022 at 1:22 pm

Tesla would have no option but to lower their prices due to the fact that all car companies would be selling electric cars.

  33. David A on January 3, 2022 at 1:23 pm

No thanks. A big chunk of Tesla’s cost of ownership is actually in maintenance. A new battery for this car, would probably cost $5,000 to $10,000…. not to mention electric cars don’t do well in sub zero temperatures where I live. So no thanks.

Good luck taking a trip. You get 300 miles on flat ground but in mtn areas you get half that plus you have to stop for 30 minutes atleast to charge. Its funny there all about alternative energy but how many pounds of fuel does their space x engines and rockets use?

  37. Jon Shaffer on January 3, 2022 at 1:28 pm

I’ve finally reached a place in my life where I could actually afford a Tesla and I’d love to have one. However I cannot get past the right to repair issue. I do not think its ethical for Tesla to lock customers out of cars they own because they won’t pay for insane overcharges on repairs. Are you listening Tesla?

  38. jolllyroger1 on January 3, 2022 at 1:31 pm

  44. Alireza Shirazifard on January 3, 2022 at 1:40 pm

I know for sure i will never see a Tesla for that price . Since Tesla built their cars , the price of all cars went up 60 to 70 % . Just like Uber ! First year you could get around very cheep less than $10 in bay area but after few years price went up , and now it’s same or more than a regular taxi price . So I would not believe your video . That’s impossible for $19K

  45. rae0521 on January 3, 2022 at 1:41 pm

We’re kidding ourselves if we believe switching to electric vehicles will make any significant dent in our environmental problems anytime soon. EVs are too far from being convenient at this point except to toddle around urban centres for shopping and appointments. Highway driving is a joke – having to wait… sometimes in line… to hook up to recharge for anywhere up to an hour every few hundred miles is simply not in the cards. Batteries will need to become MUCH more powerful, recharge MUCH more quickly, last FAR longer, and cost FAR less than are available now. And if you think manufacturing batteries is easy on the environment – THINK AGAIN.
Where do you think all this additional electricity is going to come from? Solar panels? Windmills? You gotta be joking! We’re going to need THOUSANDS more power generating stations and uncountable increases in distribution networks before the "dream" of everyone driving electric ever happens… IMO.
We need to start thinking "outside the box" on this one. If you can charge a cell phone just by placing it on a charger, why can we not start building chargers INTO THE ROADS so when the vehicle rolls by, it charges at the same time?
