In this video I give you an overview on the different technologies for quantum computing, their benefits and disadvantages, who is working on what, and how far along they are.

Correction to what I say at 7 mins 17 seconds: They have of course a net POSITIVE charge.

Correction to what I say at 9 mins 24 seconds: D-wave informed us that 5600 qubits is a bit too high. 5000+ would be the most accurate number.

    Every time scientists get to a dead-end they would come up with a date and say:`We aim to do this and that by 2025, or 2028 and so on`…to keep the incoming money flowing.

    Guess you will have to update this video, a Cambrige University led Startup called Riverlane just shrinked the quantum computer to a coin sized chip.

    Sabine, in a previous video, you equated quantum computing to "cold fusion" – i.e. possible in theory, but not in practice. You did not say that here. Has your mind changed about the future prospects of quantum computing?

    I have a feeling that down the road a bit, Q-entanglement will play an important role in communication across vast distances. Imagine manipulation of photons at one end and at the other end (light years away) the results are mirrored due to entanglement. Intriguing.

    Why is it exciting…. Nothing of any value has yet been produced and when it does it will be useful in very niche areas. Hyping tech is an age old game and usually pointless in the long run. The video does point this out.

    Google, IBM, NASA, Temporal Defense Systems etc…all have a D-Wave system
    D-Wave Systems, Sanctuary AI and Kindred AI is not what you think..

    Yesterday I left a polite and excited comment on synthetic biological quantum computing with a link to a new Nature paper on cryptochrome 1,
    a protein that scales quantum effects for
    magnetic field detection in migrating birds. It was deleted? Why? Biological quantum computing is left out of this video and its possibility is relevant.

    Thanks Dr Hossenfelder for giving this brief introduction! I always had a dream on creating a superfast and extremely powerful PC, which enable to solve every single question of humanity, by just input our command to it! The current approach of quantum computer design is far more than I thought (I only familiar the first 3). But, except the D-wave, seem like all of these approaches are still remain as a protype, or sitting inside the academic laboratory. I think at least need to wait till the mid of 21st century (2050 and onward), quantum computing will just become something solid and being used by us

    In theory If a CPU was made from optic fibre the photon computing would be available at good prices as it will not need to be supercooled.and there is no lag in data transmission. This can be called the “Speed of Light Computer “. The word Quantum my not of been made and named properly @🕉🔺➕

    Wouldn’t it make sense to build quantum computers in space as they would be much easier to cool and then use high bandwidth to transfer the data?

    What they leave out in their announcements is actually how much filtering goes on in the software that interacts with the quibits, such as the Grover filter. Heck most of the work is done before the quibits are even involved, what I see are quibits are only only bingos balls providing some random figure, the randomness availability has never been available to any computer and from that randomness can come consciousness.
