Ethics question? You won’t believe this — but it’s true… the name of the government agency has been redacted. Remember that this was part of the course catalog for employees and was available on the internet all over the world:

Ethics 1 (Required for all [redacted] employees:

What is the Ethics Code? What is an improper Governmental Action? What are the [redacted] Policies? This class introduces the codes and policies that apply to all [redacted] employees and officers, how they relate to building and maintaining the public trust and the vital role played b the Ethics Commission.

There is one more line to this catalog entry which was available all over the world via internet. We’ll get to that in a moment.

Thinking to be helpful, I relayed this to the IT Director who took it to the HR Director for resolution.

    The final line:

    Discontinued until further notice.

When I showed it to the Chaplain, he thought it was hilarious.

And the solution to this entry?

The government agency deleted it from the catalog. And the course was never taught again. Ever.

Hello there dear viewer: if you are reading the comment section before watching, I may advise you

OP has to wear a shirt because everyone else is wearing one. Does OP give in, that just because it’s just a shirt he doesn’t like, it’s not like it effects him that much?

Nope. OP decides to bend the rules and wears his shirt in an unusual manner. His legitimately great boss, Greg, stops him. He politely asks OP to wear his shirt like how he instructed him to. Does OP decide that thought it may have been funny the first time, he shouldn’t double down any further?

Nope. OP pulls the same stunt THREE MORE TIMES, to the point where Greg, his legitimately great boss has sighed at him, implicating that he is none too pleased with this charade. Does OP give up the jig, realising that he shouldn’t potentially sabotage his working relationship with a legitimately great boss over something he can’t control?

Nope. OP continues this act of self-destructive behaviour, under the guise of "having a little fun". Pretending like Greg is still in on this gag and isn’t sick of it yet, to the point where he completely wears down his legitimately great boss to the point of him having to rewrite the rules. He then posts this story to Reddit, where everyone calls him out for his behaviour. Does admit he is immature and petulant?

Yes. OP admit that he is indeed, immature and petulant, but he says "And?" after it, acting like him souring his personal interconnections with his legitimately great boss over a shirt is somehow no big deal. He goes on to say how he wouldn’t have kept it going if everyone wasn’t okay with it (despite the fact he did keep it going after Greg sighed at him), and that he doesn’t like to make waves (despite protesting against and escalating the matter of having to wear a shirt for six bouts to the point where he broke the poor man down). And, with that, he brushes all of these well-made complaints with "haters gonna hate", like it’s 2013 again.

    Good job, OP. Good. Job.

First OP, that isn’t malicious compliance more than it is being a brat. You’re lucky you didn’t get written up for being an idiot.
Third OP, you were driving around without your license? Geez, dude, that’s my biggest worry, to be that careless to leave my license at home.

Story 3: This may go to a legal issue. I was dealing with my cell phone company. Pretty simple task. New SIM, have them add it to my account. Go to the store, forgot my ID. Doh. The person actually said (my cell phone was working at this point, just doing a SIM swap from account A to account B), "Here’s a new SIM. Go out in the parking lot and call customer service, and they can switch it for you." Apparently, with that carrier, because the store COULD see your ID, they had to see your ID. Because the phone folx could NOT see your ID, they could use backup ways of authenticating you.

  18. Kim Sappington on June 26, 2022 at 10:56 pm

Story 3: I lived in a moderately sized Texas city that had a crappy company for internet, they had a monopoly. We hated their service and customer service was awful. Had no other options for the five years we lived in that town. 🤯

  21. Mike Clark on June 26, 2022 at 10:56 pm

Last story, of course it’s ethical to teach from a textbook you wrote yourself. If you’re an expert in the field at the grade level, why couldn’t you write a decent textbook on the subject? If you can’t write such a textbook, maybe you shouldn’t be teaching the subject at all? Who else is going to understand the topic better, than the author of the text? When I was studying chemistry in university 45 years ago, for my first class, which was in thermodynamics, the text was cowritten by the professor. It was a very good textbook. I still have a copy today, and it remains a very good textbook on the subject.

Story 2, My daughter’s (20) boss did that once to me to complain that she had been late one day in 6 months and I was to do somethingto discipline her. I replied "Wow I thought they were all (it was well known the staff would all hang out at my house after work) joking about how f’ing stupid you were!" *click

RWBY is pronounced Ruby sas odd as that seems.

  26. Lonnie Teichen on June 26, 2022 at 11:07 pm

I can relate with the FU shirt, but mine was a shirt, it was a net hat (cloth) only women had to wear. Worked in a factory, but it was because they didn’t want us to get our hair caught in the secondary machines we did the work on. Most of the ladies that worked their had short hair, me included. My hair was shorter than most of the guys (most of they guys had shoulder length hair) who worked on the machines. Some wore baseball hats, while most didn’t wear anything. So I wore my net hat tied around my neck. The plant manager blew a gasket when he saw it was tied around my neck. My forman told me I had to wear it on my head. I told him it wasn’t fair as most of the guys had longer hair than me. But I put it back on and 1 year later, the ladies could wear a bandana instead of the hair net.

  29. Gregory Thomas on June 26, 2022 at 11:10 pm

Story 1: OP totally missed the best MC…wearing the FU shirt…as SHORTS! Somebody…and I’m not saying who…did exactly that when told to "wear what you want to" for casual Friday.
Story 4: As noted by OP…an Ethics class at college was the First Red Flag…as in it’s pretty much like owning a herd of unicorns that shoot gold coins out of their ass…doesn’t exist.

last story: I think, the professor wanted to test, if the students just download something from the internet or have honest websearch skills with the ability do differentiate between real facts and some BS on a website. and it’s hard to check that.

  32. posey1982 on June 26, 2022 at 11:13 pm

With the multiple malicious compliance shirt 👕 day. I think coming to the manager, and telling them that he is appreciated for being a good sport, and that it wouldn’t have happened if his since of humor wasn’t well thought of. Plus, "set up all future managers for failure " for the rest of life, by comparison.

  33. posey1982 on June 26, 2022 at 11:13 pm

House built in 1964. . . DSL Lite is the only option out here. And at&t no longer offers DSL at all. Grandfather in, or No service.

  34. Nicholi on June 26, 2022 at 11:17 pm

I agree with you about that first OP, this isn’t grade school, stop acting childish. Your at job, they pay you and you act like an asshole. I can’t with people like that. I probably would have went to the rules to see if they can be written up after the first three attempts he made. Would this be mean possibly, but by that time you are wasting both of our times on you infantile behavior. Grow up. The more I write the more his behavior just upsets me.

  35. Matthew Aldridge on June 26, 2022 at 11:17 pm

"Dont you know your parents number?" Well yes sir but both of my parents have passed. Would you like me to get you a oujai board?

  36. Valien SR on June 26, 2022 at 11:17 pm

Which branch was the guy in the second story in? Because in the army, you’d get chewed out for calling an NCO “sir”. It’s “Sergeant” for E5-8 (unless the E8 is a first sergeant, in which case you say that), and “Sergeant major” for E9.

Shirt Story: For his last trick, OP should have quietly and in passing, pointed out to Greg that the FU Shirts are a Violation of the Current Dress Code as written…

  39. David Harshman on June 26, 2022 at 11:23 pm

Why would it be unethical for a professor to profit both from teaching (via a paycheck) and from writing (via whatever advance/royalties they earn from being a good textbook author?) Is it only okay for admins and investors to profit from privatized education?

  40. Dead-Dog Rising on June 26, 2022 at 11:24 pm

  41. Reshawshid on June 26, 2022 at 11:24 pm

Colleges clearly have a deal going on with textbook companies to extort students for lots of money by only using the most recent, expensive textbooks available. After all, one of Pearson’s child companies was caught in a money laundering scheme, and they’re about the biggest name in textbooks…

To think that an ethics professor would use his own textbooks and profit from it is nothing strange given how corrupt academia is.

  42. Amanda Croft on June 26, 2022 at 11:26 pm

First story, I’m all for going against rules that don’t make sense, but OP is just intentionally being annoying to press everyone’s buttons. I would’ve fired him.

  43. Shawna Burt on June 26, 2022 at 11:26 pm

Well, OP was technically wearing the shirt. Greg is just a buzzkill.

  44. bradwolf07 on June 26, 2022 at 11:29 pm

Last Story: In college I had a few classes where the course text book was written by the Professor. One time the Professor told us not to use the College Bookstore because they would overcharge us. He gave us a few options on where to get it cheaper. Another time, the Professor told us he couldn’t give us a copy of the book (due to legal reasons with the distributor). But there was a loophole. He could photocopy from the book and give to us. So he photocopied the entire book for all of his students. We just had to provide our own 3 Ring Binder. A third case, the Professor straight up told us, "I am required to assign a course text book. I have assigned (insert name of book), which I wrote. You don’t need to buy a copy. If I will actually use anything from it, I will provide photocopies. Save your money".

So I don’t know the ethics of this whole thing, but I do know some Professors are more ethical than others.

  45. Melody Whispersong on June 26, 2022 at 11:29 pm

    Story 1 sounds like Kroger’s?

  46. Dinner-fork tongue on June 26, 2022 at 11:29 pm

_And,_ OP1? _And_ you’re looking for a way to get sacked.

Like Rob said, Greg is your boss, not your parent. Stop being a brat and meet him halfway, because you’re LUCKY to have a superior that actually gives a damn.

  47. Taff Edwards on June 26, 2022 at 11:29 pm

FU Shirt, tie dye/bleach it them wear it to work and say "it just happened in the wash"!!!

  48. Ernest Marshall on June 26, 2022 at 11:30 pm

Is there any follow ups from OP in the first story? Something tells me OP is still working some crappy job cause nobody takes him of her seriously enough to give immature op a chance at a higher paying job with more responsibility.

  49. Eddie Davenport on June 26, 2022 at 11:30 pm

First story I would of just fired them after the second time

  50. mrmoose6619 on June 26, 2022 at 11:31 pm

First story: I would have looked up the dress code to see what the proper steps were for dress code violation after OP’s shenanigans the first couple of times. Even if I was lying saying I don’t like the shirt either but we all have to wear it right… that level of immaturity is terrible.

Last one I think is a trap question to see what you do and how well you can think under pressure. OP’s answer was brilliant. This might have been specific ethics for a specific job, so the professor can use their own book. I had a class like that in college. Can’t remember what.

Thanks to all OPs and KCC.
