T-Mobile customer shares frustration over 'free' offer

When a cellphone company offers something for free, a lot of people might be enticed to take them on it.

I just went to T-Mobile as a former Sprint customer and did 2 lines under the 55+ plan. They offered the free line also. I had no use for it so I passed. I think the employees don’t know this as my sales rep seemed like he knew what he was doing.

  2. Salvador Morales on May 17, 2022 at 8:29 pm

Never again will I be customer of T-Mobile suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Sam Chu on May 17, 2022 at 8:29 pm

If you’re a customer already. T-mobile won’t let you use any promotions. My sisters and I was going to sign up for 3 lines for $90. 3rd line free. We went to the T-mobile store. The girl explained since I was already a T-mobile customer. We didn’t qualify. I have to change my account and number.

  4. SarcasmForDummies on May 17, 2022 at 8:30 pm

And shortly after this, Fred in the Text Promotion department became known as Fred The Idiot in the mail-room.

T mobile is the worst. I went in for the senior plain and they put me in a different plain and will not fix it. the two phone were to be free and after I received my bill I find I am being charged for the phones. I have called the company gone in to the store and no one know what to do about it. I am paying more now than I was before. I need to get away from t mobile

  6. Sburdi on May 17, 2022 at 8:31 pm

I’ve been a customer of T-Mobile for 10 years. I’m having issues with their latest promotion for a free iPhone 13. It’s not “FREE.” They want $349.99 up front. When I ask why, they provide an explanation that makes no sense to me!!

  7. Woez on May 17, 2022 at 8:32 pm

The 55+ program is very specific and it only takes a few minutes to scroll down and read about the program: the store associates were dead wrong for gassing that lady head up and that’s the problem. Most of the time people are so focused on getting new line activations that they forget it’s attached to a paying customer at the end of the day. If you mess up you have to fix it.

  8. PewPewCat on May 17, 2022 at 8:34 pm

I’m also in mass. They just did something very similar to me. I was supposed to get a promo for $800 off the note 20 ultra, bringing it down to 399.99 which was an absolute luxury acquisition for me and I was so excited to be able to afford it with this discount. I don’t usually get luxury items for myself, I’m a single mom. I’ve never ever had a remotely current phone. But I was promised a monthly device charge of $16.67 after the promo and that was doable. So I sent in a fully paid for, mint condition (still had the stickers on) S9 plus that I really loved and took great care of, as a trade in to get that promo.

The 800 off promo was never applied.

They just went ahead and applied a 500 off promo, but I did the math and what they’re deducting monthly is coming out to $470 off after 24 months. So a ripoff within a ripoff.

For the past 2 months I’ve spoken with multiple reps. Got strung along and was told to wait until the next billing cycle, it would "definitely be fixed".
The next billing cycle came and it remained unchanged. And now the 3rd rep (excluding the one that set my plan up and promised me the promo same as the others) is telling me I don’t even qualify for the promotion at all because I didn’t switch in from an outside carrier. Nowhere does it state that in the fine print of the $800 off Note 20 Ultra promotion. The requirements that were given were met. My phone was eligible, mint condition and my line was added to the magenta max plan (I had switched from my ex’s tmobile account to my mom’s, the first rep was well aware of that when she promised me 800 off).

And to top it all off, I told the last rep I spoke to that I won’t be able to pay that, so I want my phone back since all of this was set up under false pretenses and I would have never traded my phone in if I hadn’t been lied to. She said to me "the remorse period has passed" so now they won’t even let me have my old phone back. Even though it’s their fault for stringing me along and over something that they messed up in the first place.

So now I have to pay for something I can’t afford and find some other place to shave that additional money off of, not easily done when you have no money to spare OR option number 2 would be to not pay and then lose this new phone all while not getting my old one back, leaving me with nothing.

I was told that they couldn’t give discounts or apply credits manually. Trust me, I asked if they could do that or if they could apply the promo manually since I was supposed to get it. They "can’t do anything". Not even a manager would be able to do anything supposedly.

Curious that they were able to for this lady.

And also interesting is that the 800 off promo didn’t apply because "you have to switch in from an outside carrier and you came from another tmobile account", but the 500 off worked just fine…. 🤔
…the same promotion for a lesser amount.

This is a scam. Plain and simple. And I feel awful on so many levels. Like an idiot for falling for it. I’ll have to deal with the repercussions for the next 2 years and to top it off I was the one who convinced my mom to switch to tmobile because we could save some money and now I have to carry that guilt around with me too.

I’ve read many comments of other customers complaining about this same thing. This has been going on for some time. A lot of posts were from 2020. This isn’t a rarity within tmobile and has been going on to some regularity for at least a year.

  9. ChrisQQ on May 17, 2022 at 8:39 pm

These is because the morons of the store dealers don’t read the policys…..

  10. Kristin Stemberga on May 17, 2022 at 8:40 pm

T mobile scams,, double talks,, gaslights,, and lies in every transaction. Every phone company does this now but T mobile is the worst.

  11. Eduardo Hernandez on May 17, 2022 at 8:40 pm

  14. Simply Clean on May 17, 2022 at 8:43 pm

This is why I don’t take any free things from phone company as long its not sign on paper that guarantees is free

  15. CE User on May 17, 2022 at 8:44 pm

She should have gone to the media when she got this offer and have them witness and facilitate this. The outcome would have been different especially on live tv broadcast.

T Mobile wants me to pay off my new iPhone 13 they just sold me through Sprint. It’s a T-Mobile phone on the T-Mobile network with a T-Mobile SIM card. I upgraded through T-Mobile but I guess it was financed from Sprint but Sprint is now T-Mobile so it shouldn’t be an issue, but it is! So they want me to pay $629 for my T-Mobile phone so I can move it from T-Mobile to T-Mobile.

    Makes sense, huh?

  18. NewYorkCity Mo on May 17, 2022 at 8:48 pm

T mobile is for dumb people.
    They honor nothing
You literally have to call them frequently to make sure you get what you was offered.
    Att is the best
    So worth a dollar

  19. Lana Grey on May 17, 2022 at 8:50 pm

Seems like T-Mobile does this a lot with similar things!

  20. Crow on May 17, 2022 at 8:53 pm

There are no free lines for discounted plans. :/ reps need to read the promotions. Just because you get an offer doesn’t mean you qualify.

  21. Astral Flux on May 17, 2022 at 8:54 pm

T-Mobile is ALWAYS offering me FREE ad ons and phones etc and then when you go and get it they charge you and tell you it’s actually gonna be 1k 🤦‍♀️ they play games

I have a frustrated case. I wanna die t mobile add a line into my account and they don’t allow me to Jaír calls into my regular account semoane was. Tracking my call when I get the new phone they gime me a used phone I paid 900 for that what I can do ???

  37. Jesus F on May 17, 2022 at 9:12 pm

$300 off a $500 phone means she made $200 in installments and the phone was almost half way paid off. Phones are credited in the course of 24 months so she spent about a year battling them. At that point they should’ve just given her a free phone/taken it back, or honored the free deal
