I learned this the hard way, Used a humidifier during the summer and ended up with a very chronic strong cough and ended up checking up with a doctor who told me it wasn’t pneumonia. It took 3 months for me to get better. Now I change the water frequently and keep the humidifier clean.

So you didn’t clean your humidifier and got sick. It’s pretty common knowledge you need to CLEAN these things regularly. I use vinegar and water as a cheap solution. And distilled water to prevent buildup. For you to say the humidifier nearly killed you causes undue stress and panic on those who have them or might buy them. So no DUH clean the damn thing!! This is such a misleading video!

    spit it out lol

  6. Jason Shoraka on March 31, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Don’t use the same old water in that machine that you use 2 weeks ago during that 2 weeks that you did not use the water is one of the bacteria grows hello, use common sense switch the water out and also add vinegar to the water like 20% vinegar to whatever water you use vinegar kills germs so do both clean it out every time you use it add new clean water instead of the old water from a month ago it’s all common sense people! 🤔🤔🤔🤣😂😆😎

  7. Nelson Mahaffey on March 31, 2022 at 6:21 pm

I stopped using a humidifier after transplant. I did/do use a CPAP machine. About 6 months after transplant I got a sinus infection from my CPAP. Even though I cleaned it, or cleaned at it everyday. I had a nose bleed that caused 2 trips to the ER before the one at RMC sent me to UAB (the 3rd trip) where I spent 5 days being treated and observed. I’ve since gotten a So-Clean and have not had any more problems.

  8. Mike Hendrix on March 31, 2022 at 6:22 pm

You should have had common sense to know to sanitize it. # it heats the water and that would have killed any bacteria. And 3rd you said you were on antibiotics for 2 years and you THINK you had to take them twice daily. If a person that was on antibiotics for 2 years would damn sure know 100% how many times they took it without a doubt. You just trying to put the blame on someone else for your stupidity. I have used these machines for 60 years, yes I said 60 years never a problem. I also have problems with my immune system. You had to have came into contact with something somewhere else. Your son did not get it. Trust me a bacteria that strong whether your immune system was good or bad then a healthy person would have caught it to. This story is rubble and stop blaming companies for you being ignorant. You have common sense and you’re an adult. What made you think about sitting for YEARS you didn’t have to clean it. Tell that BS to someone else. Sorry just being honest here. YOU THINK YOU TOOK THEM 2 TIMES A DAY FOR 2 YEARS. You gotta get better at.story telling to convince someone. But I am glad you’re okay now. God Bless

I just got a cute train humidifier and I get recommended this

  13. Jay S on March 31, 2022 at 6:27 pm

sounds like an operator error. You were suppose to clean this out. This similar to blaming the dryer manufacturer your house caught on fire because you never cleaned out the lint trap, or blaming the law mower company the blade chopped off your hand when you stuck your arm under the mower while holding onto the safety run latch. I have several of these and clean them out regularly. These work great.

  14. TenFour on March 31, 2022 at 6:28 pm

Its tricky dealing with things like this that are supposed to be for good health and end up causing a problem. I got one from QVC on payments and was working fine for couple years but when Covid hit, I left town for half year and returned but it wouldn’t work anymore due to not using it and scale build up inside. I had cleaned it out with vinegar but mistake probably was cleaning base. I blame Covid for a lot more too, left central air off in house and found mold. But humidifier is almost needed when heat is on.
Sadly, the curse of Covid not only gets humans but messes with other things too. Instructions say not to clean base with chemicals but it does need to be cleaned.

  15. Emily Marett on March 31, 2022 at 6:30 pm

That’s why you have to clean wipe it out daily and disinfect it weekly

  16. Chair Boi on March 31, 2022 at 6:31 pm

I think the UV light has to be exposed to whatever it’s sanitizing for a certain amount of time before it’s considered “clean”

  17. TruthofDilly on March 31, 2022 at 6:31 pm

My mom had one …I told my sister who was staying with her at the time to “get that thing out of moms bedroom”! I’m so glad I did, these things are not good for your health.

Steam humidifiers are much safer, because the humidity gets boiled before being released, which kills any bacteria. I would never own a cool-mist (ultrasonic) humidifier, plus, those produce white powder if there are "any" minerals in your water. You still need to clean/descale the steam humidifiers at least once a week, but it’s a simple process. Glad you’re okay!

  20. Lilpinkslip Lee on March 31, 2022 at 6:36 pm

The reason you get sick is because most people use humidifiers with filters and don’t clean them properly enough or at all and breath in the all the unseen scum put out into the air including antibiotic resistant bugs. No matter what kind you buy, you still need to clean them. None of them are going to kill the viruses or bacteria once they begin to grow unless you thoroughly clean it.

  21. Yankee on March 31, 2022 at 6:36 pm

Use distilled water for no bacteria!!!

  22. Mia Kreta on March 31, 2022 at 6:38 pm

I thought this would be informational. This is just blunt advertising
STEAM HUMIDIFIERS are the safest way to go. Boiled water = no mold, no fungi, no bacteria

Thank you for sharing your story and this awesome humidifier, much appreciated!

  27. WVmom63 on March 31, 2022 at 6:42 pm

You have to clean it every couple days or you’ll notice the scum. You don’t want that. But a humidifier can be great for us that have Sjogren’s… Or cold or the flu but you have to take care of it.

  28. Rain Maker on March 31, 2022 at 6:42 pm

Steam Humidifiers have no such problems.
They boil the water and don’t need any additional technology to prevent bacteria building up

Please keep an eye out if you use your stove…I had a pot on the stove and turned the heat down and went to the laundry room and when I returned the flame went out and the kitchen was filled with gas. Luckily I caught it in time. Be safe!

  32. evelyn buchholz on March 31, 2022 at 6:48 pm

,.I was asked to buy one of these machines I said no and suggested placing a pot of water on the stove they acted like I kicked them in the teeth .. they thought that I was a fool and a tight ass kept on saying that that machine just harbors mold spores mold has made me a sick person and I get really funny about being around it , but now my new bf is a pig and does not understand how important it is to keep a clean and mold free place to live , windows, kitchens , all t he house is a place to grow mold if you don’t take care of it

  33. hypogogix on March 31, 2022 at 6:49 pm

Treat the water you use in it with chlorine dioxide drops, you get them hiking stores, because hikers use it to clean drinking water. It’s known as the most powerful anti-microbial known to man. It’s also completely safe for humans to ingest.

There a little bit of controversy surrounding this because some people have been using it to cure themselves of Malaria. The CDC in America say it’s so safe to use in the meat industry that once you’ve washed meat with it you don’t even need to wash it off.

It’s used in hospitals world wide to clean surgical equipment, clean municipal water supplies, recycle water in grow rooms for various plants trees and crops, among other things.

Do a little bit of reading on it before you use it but its helped me a lot having suffered bronchitis and chest infections almost annually. I’ve just bought a cheaper humidifier and hygrometer. I’ll be cleaning it regularly with Chlorine Dioxide and hopefully I won’t go through the same as what you did. Glad you’re okay n thanks for the video 🙂

You should always clean the humidifier after each use and don’t use tapwater use steel water boil the water cool it down and use that water shouldn’t have it too close to you either people don’t read instructions nowadays they just put them to one side take care BSafe be kind to each other

  40. Jason Shoraka on March 31, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Nice video it’s good your informing people! But what I think you did was use the same old water that was already in there from a month ago that you used it before that water grew bacteria during that month or 6 weeks ago or whenever used it last it’s common sense to just use new water every time and it might help to add vinegar to it that will clean all the pipes and hoses inside vinegar kills germs,! Good video though! I am glad you’re informing people because that is something that more people should know about!!!

  41. DESERTRACKER1 on March 31, 2022 at 6:59 pm

ive owned my humidifier about 4 months never clean it, the water was from tap that i refilled. i noticed the water was a little slimy in the corners but used it anyways…… woke up that morning shortness of breath felt like i was drowning when i lied down. ill never use any tank humidifier again.

  42. HxneyCombxx on March 31, 2022 at 7:01 pm

If you don’t have a transplant is the humidifier ok

  43. Jason Shoraka on March 31, 2022 at 7:02 pm

You are absolutely right,! After first use if you let it stay wet and then use it 2 weeks later during those two weeks bacteria mold can grow in there and then when you turn it on again and the fan blows humid air out if you didn’t wash it or clean it properly they can blow out spores and bacteria into the air during the two weeks that the bacteria grew in there cuz you kept it wet on the sides of the glass and the inner workings of it! What I’m about to say don’t quote me on it do more research but what I do is,,,, ( add vinegar 20% vinegar to the water vinegar kills a lot of virus and bacteria and it will clean the inner workings of the machine also! Vinegar vinegar vinegar add vinegar to the water! Don’t quote me on that but I’m pretty sure I am correct on it do your own due diligence and research on vinegar adding to the water but I do that I add vinegar to my swamp cooler which is also a air purifier cuz I added filters to it I had vinegar in the water and I always make sure the water is changed to new water don’t let that old sit water set you need to change the water every time you use it hello use common sense changing the water when you reuse it again!

  44. Shells dbn on March 31, 2022 at 7:03 pm

Wow , this si the first time I have heard of this butThats really Really ODD, taking that its a known fact everything has to be cleaned on a regular Basis , especially that our Water no matter where you live is toxic, most people Here in USA DONT even drink their water . I am severely Asthmatic and live in Arizona , dry dry dry and could not have survived without Humidifiers and whole house Air purifiers , I do use Distilled water that costs a lot but it helps. This is something to think about

  45. serenity on March 31, 2022 at 7:04 pm

    Wow God bless you.

  46. Landon P on March 31, 2022 at 7:05 pm

It also depends on the TYPE of humidifier. The ones that blow a fan over a wicking filter generally won’t dispense bacteria or mold at all, even if its growing in the machine.

Hot steam versions can carry some things, but the REAL danger is the ultrasonic ones – those basically just vaporize water droplets and blow them into the room – carrying whatever mold or bacteria comes with it.

  47. DJTINNIO on March 31, 2022 at 7:09 pm

Please don’t drink distiller water and dehumidifier water. Science shows, you end up with the heavy metals in the water and build ups of it in your body.
The water kondensates on cooling fins, that are made of metal, or inside of metal coils. Think about it.

  48. Felix on March 31, 2022 at 7:10 pm

Clean it EVERYDAY with vinegar or CONCROBIUM- let it totally DRY.. use distilled water.. REALLY?
    DRY IT between uses!!
