PSA: they make the front of the can opener much much sharper now, so be very cautious!

  2. Philippe Rostin on October 20, 2021 at 7:30 am

You actually have the hook blade on the Mini Champ ! I wonder why its not standard by now !

  3. Mateusz Galuhn on October 20, 2021 at 7:30 am

    👍

A gut hook could be useful, but would the can opener feature be hampered by this mod? The can opener is one of the best tools on the knife. In fact my can opener at home is a small Swiss Army knife, and one of the most used tools on my larger camping one.

A fantastic mod if you ever need to open plastic bubble packaging, yes you could use the knife blade but there is a risk of going too deep, with this mod you run around the perimeter. job jobbed. Have doen this to my outrider and now doing this to my ranger . Thanks Felix Immler. Keep the vids coming.

Cutting the belly skin of an animal with a hook blade does help to prevent injury to the person cutting, but that’s easy to avoid with a little skill; the main reason is to avoid cutting too deep and piercing the organs of the animal being skinned.

You know. I’m still fan of the old Wenger ones, I really hate the can opener from the victorinox. Wengers have a "hook" can opener, you pull it, it’s way more comforable than the push can opener, safer and can do many of the things the hook one you modified here. Love your channel, subscribed!

  10. Doe Jon on October 20, 2021 at 7:38 am

Love this ! It works great & doesn’t have any negative effects on the functionality of the can opener. This absolutely should be a factory upgrade! Way to go Felix !!

  11. Kevin Durham on October 20, 2021 at 7:38 am

My can openers look thinner than yours. On all my SAK the side of my can opener without the nail nick is half as thick as the spine. Is yours the same?

  12. Frederik Mare on October 20, 2021 at 7:38 am

I honestly like the modification!… Can it still open a can in 10 seconds? 👍👍👍

  13. uddoss on October 20, 2021 at 7:40 am

great stuff..i will do it too on my victorinox knife….

    Mit diesem Büchse Öffner
kann man auch wunderbar Orangen einschneiden .
    Eine Super Idee mit dem
    optimierten Büchsen Öffner !

Thank you!!! I used my dremel and did this 2 days ago…wow! Its fantastic and just what I wanted for Cadet – a second blade for opening boxes! Perfect!

Perfect modification…Victorinox should definitely adopt this. Dear Felix, I wanna buy a Victorinox for the apocalypse: )) and carry that with me…Which one would you prefer, which one would cover more real-life cases? workcamp or swisstool spirit?

  25. Yourdian B on October 20, 2021 at 7:57 am

Its so useful modification, I really wanna try this trick 2 my Spartan, but i dont have the heart (or tool) to do it 😅

  26. Michael Hayward on October 20, 2021 at 7:57 am

I love all your upgrades but don’t think I’ll do this one. I use my can opener often and have got it stuck before and snapped off that tab on my champ that I did a cool fix on robbing one from another knife. Taking metal away from the point which penetrates the can at first worries me it could weaken and break off, woulda liked to see ya open a can with that.

  27. Stephen on October 20, 2021 at 7:59 am

I work at REI. The other day a representative from Victorinox knives came in. I told her about you and your incredible bush craft skills with just a Swiss Army knife. She seemed rather impressed.

  28. David Benner on October 20, 2021 at 8:00 am

YouTube stopped sending me your classes. You’re back! Only a few weeks ago I bought two Fieldmaster SAK’s for two kits I am putting together. Keep us enlightened, O Wise One!

  29. thehellezell on October 20, 2021 at 8:00 am

yep I’m doing this one this weekend for sure … on both of my SAKs! thanks felix

You are a genius. You need to be working for Victorinox research and development team. I have my Grand father’s old Swiss Army knife. After watching many of your videos, I’m going to take a closer look at that old knife

    I love Felix.
    He’s so cool!!!

  37. jooky5 on October 20, 2021 at 8:07 am

Great project! How have you found the performance of the can opener afterwards?

  38. Alex Detrojan on October 20, 2021 at 8:11 am

Felix, I really like that idea. Do you know a method of doing this without power tools?

  39. Michael Kennedy on October 20, 2021 at 8:11 am

Hello Felix! Think I need to add the Vic to my fight suit survival kit. Like the fire steel toothpick idea too

  40. Analog Matrix on October 20, 2021 at 8:12 am

If you do this modification you can no longer use the can opener as an oxygen wrench. That’s what the 90 degree flat part is for. Also works if your garden hose valve (metallic valve yokes only) breaks, you can unscrew the valve handle and use the can opener as a handle. I leave my front yard valve handle off so transients don’t get water and leave the valve leaking.

Muy buenas ideas 👍, sería bueno que pudieras poner subtitulo en español, gracias 🇦🇷 desde Argentina.

    this man is a genius

  43. A.v.K. on October 20, 2021 at 8:19 am

And it can now also be used for spearfishing, the can opener then has a barb.

  44. Thomas Siepmann on October 20, 2021 at 8:20 am

  45. Victor Torres on October 20, 2021 at 8:21 am

Felix, please help me 😁 I just did it, but it’s not nearly as sharp as yours. I would say it’s pulling instead of cutting what it’s supposed to cut. Any tips on how to really sharpen the hook? Danke schön once again!

  46. Blue Ox on October 20, 2021 at 8:21 am

And the can opener function still works as it should??

  47. Dunk O on October 20, 2021 at 8:22 am

Thanks Felix – nice mod. How about a video showing your top 10(?) mods?

  48. G58 on October 20, 2021 at 8:23 am

I did this mod with the can opener on one of my Victorinox Multitools about 20 years ago. It’s very handy – as long as I have the modified one with me!

Thank you for sharing this mod

  49. Peiper on October 20, 2021 at 8:24 am

I wished i could do it but im seventeen and i have no skills

  50. Eduardo Alves on October 20, 2021 at 8:26 am

This modification is good that should be mandatory from factory. Congratulations!
