Yo forgot the most important an lovecraftian videogame saga, and the first survival horror game, Alone in the Dark. (1, 2, 3, and The new Nightmare)

Perhaps this is an unconventional Lovecraft-inspired game, but the "Aether Zombies" story in Call of Duty is inspired by Lovecraft, with some heavy inspiration pulled from Nyarlarthotep, The Colour from Outer Space, The Re-Animater and more.

"Shadows of Evil" in particular has a group of characters experience cosmic horror among hordes of the undead, as they do the bidding of the Shadow Man in a missing city, in which you partake in grotesque cult rituals while fighting off monsters inspired by Lovecrafts stories, only to discover their dimension appears to have been assimilated by huge and ancient incomprehensible beings.

If you want an action/horde survival game merging genres and settings from historical WW2 Nazi warfare, to contemporary Sci Fi horror settings and everything in between, give it a go. The Lovecraft-inspired lore and settings in various maps is the cherry on top.

How did you turn off texture filtering in Amnesia: The Dark Descent? I’d like to do the same for a retro look.

‘Call of Cthulhu’ Dark corners of the earth – relating to the incredibly long running and popular roleplaying game I suspect?

Sanities Requiem is the only reason I purchased an old memory card and a controller for my wii.

  19. CS on November 18, 2020 at 9:11 pm

The original Alone in the Dark on PC by Infogrames will always be near and dear to my heart. Wasn’t the best game, but had some major Lovecraftian vibes.

  21. Erik on November 18, 2020 at 9:17 pm

It is worth mentioning that the Ancestor in Darkest Dungeon also speaks in fluent Lovecraft. The "Ruin has come to our family" intro could have been taken straight out of a random Lovecraft story.

  22. Tristan on November 18, 2020 at 9:20 pm

Alone in the Dark, Shadow of the Comet, Conarium, Quake, Prisoner of Ice, Darkness Within….

  23. Vrigash on November 18, 2020 at 9:20 pm

Sub from me, for putting Eternal Darkness on the no 1 spot.

  24. Elephant Ninja on November 18, 2020 at 9:20 pm

Where’s Terraria? The Eye and Brain of Cthulhu are featured as bosses in the game!

  25. Adam Link on November 18, 2020 at 9:20 pm

I love that Frog Ware made The Sinking City. Very poorly optimized but very good.

  26. Marcus Lindley on November 18, 2020 at 9:22 pm

There’s no Quake. Instant dislike lol.
    JK, good video.

  27. Ivan Baymar on November 18, 2020 at 9:24 pm

*I disagree with 10, 9 and the honorable mention. I get the deal with giving Lovecraft a fun cartoony look, but unless you are looking for something serious, you aren’t going anywhere with a wide eyed baby face monstrosity.*

  28. angry gacha kid on November 18, 2020 at 9:24 pm

You forgot alone in the dark

  29. infinitsai on November 18, 2020 at 9:26 pm

I think if you peel off the actions and mainstream gameplay, Dead Space is at its core a very lovecraftian story with sci fi interpretation?

  30. goodtime sfm on November 18, 2020 at 9:27 pm

    where terraria at

  31. Ok Ok on November 18, 2020 at 9:28 pm

Half-Life. Even though it’s very much a late 90’s shooter it still manages to capture the atmosphere and feeling I get from Lovecrafts tales better than anything else before or since.

  32. UnwrittenEarth9 on November 18, 2020 at 9:29 pm

Stephen King is the best horror writer

Clive Barker’s: Undying – it’s a classic.) Very nice game! Btw "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" – very good horror.

  37. Nathan Sennett on November 18, 2020 at 9:39 pm

Your telling me dead space isn’t on the list?

  38. Josue Garcia on November 18, 2020 at 9:40 pm

I love bloodborne. I had to stop playing it for a bit because I got obsessed with it and the lore.

  39. Rainbowveins79 on November 18, 2020 at 9:42 pm

You can add The Sinking City, because it is directly inspired by HP Lovecraft. It is in my opinion the most authentic Lovecraftion game ever.

  40. Forrest Milne on November 18, 2020 at 9:42 pm

No mention of skyrims dragon born DLC

  41. Mr Meme on November 18, 2020 at 9:42 pm

  46. Annabelle Lecter on November 18, 2020 at 9:49 pm

Newer, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones. It’s fantastic. Not Lovecraftian, straight up Lovecraft. Can not recommend enough.

  47. Fredrik Zachrisson on November 18, 2020 at 9:50 pm

If you make a side by side comparison between Tesla and Lovecraft in their old age, they look very similar.
    They could have been brothers.

  48. Serasia on November 18, 2020 at 9:51 pm

    *Yes. I am the coolest*

  49. Adam Bartlett on November 18, 2020 at 9:52 pm

For anyone with a kindle and interested to learn more or just read lovecrafts stuff the entire works of Lovecraft in one book is available for $0.99. The title is "The Great Old Ones: The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft". Its a ridiculously good deal, that is, if you dont mind ebooks and would like to have all his work in one place.

also PS: i just started reading through Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes stories. I was pleasently surpised how funny an peculiar his character was, I didnt realize how well Robert Downey Jr. played the park. Although for some reason in the movies Watson is always annoyed with Holmes which is not true to the tales. Also Holmes never says "elementarty my dear watson" in any of Doyle’s works

I feel like dead space is a bit lovecraftian, even if it wasn’t entirely inspired by it. I mean, the unitologists themselves bring it away from being like alien, and when you get to dead space 3, the actual story comes across as more lovecraftian with how unknown the necromorph, markers, and brother moons are. Not even the inhabitants of the "marker homeworld" know what they are.
