I found for me the best for programming laptop – Thinkpad P16s + Thunderbolt 4 docking station + 2 external monitors. The weight is 1.6 kg and the charger is small and lightweight, because it’s USB4 Charger.

I can attest to the hp spectre x360. I have a 13” 4k model from 2017 and it still handles everything at blazing speeds compared to my friends laptops that are newer. I’m simply looking for a monster laptop now that possibly beats mid to maybe even high end PCs

Have you ever been a CS student or programmed at all? Those laptops are for professionals with a high budget, not students. And for programming you don’t even need such a powerful machines

  30. Karlo Auguštanec on December 31, 2022 at 2:18 am

Realistically, people tend to seek higher performance laptops due to the evergrowing and everexpanding market of continuous performance increases every year.

Programming languages do not work like that. They don’t require higher performance to run each year, but the operating system maybe does.

Invest into a Thinkpad for 200-300€, upgrade its RAM and you’re good to go for 5 years, at least. Explore a Linux distro, I’d recommend arch based distros. Use text editors instead of IDEs if possible.

All of this is just a recommendation. I’m trying to provide a way to do programming on a budget. There’s no need to buy flagship laptops for that, come on.

  31. Osha on December 31, 2022 at 2:19 am

  33. Eshgod on December 31, 2022 at 2:26 am

I have the hp Spectre x360, its a great laptop, screen, power, durability is insane, just the battery life is not great, and I always have some weird audio issues.

  34. Aqib Malik on December 31, 2022 at 2:26 am

Fun fact : My pentium 4 can also do programming 😎

  35. Michael Markov on December 31, 2022 at 2:29 am

With more or less complicated projects and IDE extensions like ReSharper for Visual Studio we definitely need a powerful processor like i7 H-series Intel. In turn, it requires more wattage and way more efficient cooling systems than any of those laptops can offer without going throttling all the time.

  36. Selom on December 31, 2022 at 2:31 am

  41. John Oldman on December 31, 2022 at 2:36 am

I would add Dell Inspiron 17 7000. It’s similar to the LG Gram, the price is also similar. But has the advantage of being a 2 in 1 laptop.
