There are good Videogames and there are good Boardgames

  9. Trung Hoàng on November 27, 2021 at 12:00 pm

There is a fact that you can play virtually any board game in a video game with tabletop simulator, that means all the strategy/thinking arguments are out of the picture. The only argument left for board game is the physical interaction which is, tbh, not enough.

Board games are fun when you have people to play with. And whenever I wanna play a board game the people around me never want to play. Video games are an escape from reality. Board games are not. For me at least.

    Board games 100%.

When you get people together for a board game, it’s more fun than any video game. The problem is bringing people together.

This woman is a bimbo. She only listens to bring on her counter argument. Look for someone who is able to conduct a dialog, not a child who is grown up.

I think most people don’t realize how crazy awesome and fun modern boardgames are. I love how easy it is to get friends to play video games, but when I can sit down and play a board game, it’s just so much better. There are board games that are time-based like Space Alert, or dexterity based like Catacombs. There are games that are competitive or cooperative or team based or have a secret betrayer. There are games that are simple like "Hey that’s my Fish" or massively complex like Russian Railroads. There are games with simple components like a deck of cards or games that have wicked cool pieces like T’zolkin’s gears or Amerigo’s dice tower or Mysterium’s pocketed screen. There are games for two players, four players, eight players, even one player. There are games that are pure math like Torres or the world of the game is immensely important like in Dead of Winter, or it can hold you on the edge of your seat wanting more like in Pandemic Legacy.

For every example, I could have listed easily five more. The world of board games is so much bigger than monopoly.

I play board games when I want to have fun in my life. I play video games when I don’t want anything to do with life.

  18. Samuel Larkin on November 27, 2021 at 12:13 pm

I prefer board games. Especially in these days of countless free apps which you can quickly quit in a couple of minutes if not less than a minute. Board games have more commitment with their in-person experience.

  19. Voronwë Calanon on November 27, 2021 at 12:16 pm

Should of picked a much better board game for the example.

  20. Dr. Doinkenberger on November 27, 2021 at 12:17 pm

When did it start that people are so antisocial that they are unable to attend a board game evening?

  21. Dutch landishRDM on November 27, 2021 at 12:17 pm

Why pick? I like videogames and analog games, they are both games but completely different. Where’s John’s beard btw?!

  22. Sanguis Dominus on November 27, 2021 at 12:19 pm

    Tabletop Wargames tbh.

Build an army, going through the meta, learning the rules, organising and working out the most effective army you can build at the set points value.

Modelling your army and then painting it up – whether alone, listenin’ to choons/watching a film, or with mates teaching eachother techniques and painting skills.

Setting your army up against an opponent, all the models you painted on an awesome table with awesome terrain, and absolutely crushing them in the name of the Blood God.

I think we all started with boardgames but evolved to video games, that being said, I thoroughly enjoy both. With both, I really only play with people I’ve met face to face, so the social interaction is present regardless. I am in a very large clan for Destiny but I don’t ever play with them, I play with my brother-in-law and my buddy from work … I will admit it’s easier to make friends with boardgames, than it is with video games because you’re talking to an actual person.

  24. Rivaldo Dael on November 27, 2021 at 12:19 pm

I imagine Kim inserts into the matrix for her daily fix of games.

I love board games, but I do get bored. My favorite card game is Cards Against Humanity 😁 (I know it’s not a board game, but still)

  28. Todd Kaiser on November 27, 2021 at 12:24 pm

  29. Melvin Linderoth on November 27, 2021 at 12:25 pm

    DnD 5e all the way

  30. Joshua Smith on November 27, 2021 at 12:27 pm

Love both of you guys. They’re both great in different ways. Video games are great when you’re alone, or in a chilled out mood. There are certainly mindless video games that lack creativity, and there are games that provoke you’re imagination and challenge you. Board games on the other hand are very pro social games. Again there are simple ones that lack creativity and ones that are completely based off of your imagination. My brother is literally combining the two as I’m typing this. He’s playing D&D through skype call with his roomates in charleston. Both are great!

  31. The God Emperor on November 27, 2021 at 12:30 pm

Bloodborne, great game. Destiny, zZZZZZ game. That Board game? Eh alright, but prefer others like Pandemic Legacy 😛

Kim, try doing a co-op board game like Pandemic Legacy one I suggested. They are better than the PVP ones imo for people like you (or me) that get too competitive.

  32. Arthur Gabriel on November 27, 2021 at 12:31 pm

i like board games and video games but video games is better!

  35. Stonemansteve II on November 27, 2021 at 12:34 pm

John won, but everybody in the comments will pick video games anyway, as they basically live in their technology!!!

  36. MGR2231 on November 27, 2021 at 12:35 pm

combine the two: when you die at nuketown you have to take shots

  37. Shamam Ismael on November 27, 2021 at 12:35 pm

This Video is super interesting, however, i like board games more because they add another layer of love between family member while all videogames does is wasting your time and making your family members hate u more because they dont see u more often, u probably scream on them while you are playing video games, and doing videogames will make u much fatter, while in board games you dp physocal movements whichhelps u loose fat, bordgames with ohysical movembt are a lot nowadays, like throw your burritos

  38. KT GILBERT on November 27, 2021 at 12:35 pm

I like Hannah, watch every day. Not seeing her was honestly so refreshing.

  39. Shy Guy on November 27, 2021 at 12:35 pm

I love both. Wish there was less vitriol between the two subcultures, the two have a lot in common.

  40. highelf2 on November 27, 2021 at 12:36 pm

    Boardgames win!

  41. Kade Haflund on November 27, 2021 at 12:38 pm

I probably fall on video games side but I think johns point on face to face is true which is why I think video games should keep a focus on local multi and not go further towards online only games

  42. Jake K on November 27, 2021 at 12:39 pm

I’m with John on this about boardgames are a great activity to actually do with friends. Videogames used to be when you could play the same game together in the same room.

Kim is right that videogames are more immersive, however they are also more isolating! (Although that may be easier for the introvert.) I can beat a 100 hr. game of Final Fantasy, & then I’m like "well, what did that accomplish me in real life?" At least with boardgaming I feel I can be strengthening a relationship. One might argue by talking online I can do that too, but it’s not the same. Kim is also right that it can be hard to organize a game night. You can rage quit on multiplayer videogames too (not just boardgames).

Modern Boardgames are evolving & aren’t like the "classics" or moldy oldies, even utilizing apps, etc. There are different genres for both video & boardgames now. I like how I have to discover boardgames in a videogame environment. Board games are very tactical & strategical, but they can also be social (party) or co-op.

Also, cost should be a factor. Videogames are initially more expensive (buying a system, having to have a tv/computer, games, controllers, headsets, internet, etc.). Also markup, discs cost about $1 to make & games sell for around $60 (granted there’s cost in creating the game to sell). Boardgames have more cost in producing physical product, thus cost is more reasonable (in my mind). While all that’s needed for boardgaming is the game, it’s best played w/ a table. Hardcore gamers may want to buy a gaming table or bookshelves for their games & that’s where their expense adds up.

Kim was good at presenting her point of view, & videogaming is more mainstream (currently), however the boardgaming hobby is currently growing!

I used to say "Why would I play a boardgame when I could play a videogame?" I no longer feel that way. (In fact, it’s become the opposite w/ my free time.)

  43. CJ Ware on November 27, 2021 at 12:41 pm

Its not even an argument, board games are about as outdated as a butter churner.. Video Games are art on a level a pathetic board game could never be.

  44. chutch475 on November 27, 2021 at 12:42 pm

I enjoy both forms but Kim’s right, one of the hardest things about face to face games is that you need to set a time and a place that everyone has the adhere to.

  45. Combat Board Games on November 27, 2021 at 12:44 pm

Good debate. I like video games as well but board games are more social and quite deeper honestly, its just what you want in your gaming and for me board games take place in the mind that is where the action happens video games are all about visuals and twitch reactions. It’s the movies vs. books argument if you want accessibility then go with video games but if you want a pure "gaming" experience then I say board games every time.
